What was Mahfoud H. doing in freedom?
This is the question asked by the family of Sihem Belouahmia, whose lifeless body was found overnight from Wednesday to Thursday, near Salles-du-Gardon in the Gard.
The 39-year-old man, who admitted to having killed the 18-year-old young woman, has no less than thirteen convictions to his credit.
In 2015, he was sentenced to 12 years in prison for "theft with a weapon" by the Assize Court of Gard.
On November 28, 2017, he was released from prison through “
progressive and successive sentence adjustments
”, underlined the public prosecutor of Nîmes, Céline Gensac.
On February 1, 2023, Mahfoud H. should however have appeared, again for “robbery with a weapon”, for other acts committed more than eleven years ago and still not judged.

Although incomprehensible to part of the public, his release is legally justified.
It was first of all the reductions in sentence that allowed him not to find himself for twelve full years behind...
