A delegation of the Islamic Jihad led by the organization's Secretary-General Ziad Nachala met today (Saturday) with senior Egyptian intelligence officials in Cairo to discuss the security escalation and the situation on the ground.
According to a Palestinian source who spoke to Israel Hayom, this is a series of meetings and contacts that will continue over several days, during which the Egyptians will try to forge agreements with the Jihad leadership regarding the reduction of the organization's activities in the Palestinian Territories, while reducing the level of attacks and friction in this area.

"The Egyptians demand that Jihad calm down its operatives in Yosh, and reduce the aggression and the level of resistance operations.
This is because the Jihad is the one leading the resistance in IOSH, and if it calms down, then it increases the chance that the situation on the ground will also calm down," he said.
"The other thing is that Egypt, like the US, is afraid that the Palestinian Authority will fall.
The jihad is making efforts to strengthen and arm itself in the Palestinian Authority, and is pushing for an atmosphere of rebellion and revolution. This is a danger to the stability of the Palestinian Authority and threatens its future. Therefore, in order to preserve what is left of it and prevent its collapse, in Cairo they want to curb the jihad."
According to him, Israel conveyed a message to Egyptian intelligence in which it made it clear that it will continue to operate in the near future in IOS as long as the military activity of the armed militias in this area is not curbed.

It should be noted that Nachala supports the encouragement of resistance actions in the IOSH, and therefore it is not clear how he will respond to the Egyptian demand.
Although the jihad is an organized organization, there is no one hundred percent control over every person in the militias.

The bulk of the discourse between the Egyptians and the Jihad concerns the Yash arena, although the Egyptian intelligence officers led by General Abbas Kamel demand that the organization exercise restraint in the Gaza Strip as well.
