One of the most prominent features of the current wave of terrorism in Jerusalem is the young age of the terrorists - Palestinian teenagers from the east of the city, who are influenced, among other things, by incitement on social networks and the content taught in schools.

Three of the recent attacks in the city were carried out by 14 and 13 year olds, a profile that makes it difficult to thwart the attacks ahead of time.

Yesterday, Maj. Sergeant Asil Souaed, 22 years old, was killed by a civilian security guard during an attack at the Shoafat checkpoint in East Jerusalem, while inspecting a bus.

The terrorist, 13 years old from Shoafat, was shot and slightly wounded.

A preliminary investigation shows that the terrorist pulled out a knife and stabbed the fighter, and a civilian security guard who was with him during the inspection shot at the terrorist - and also hit the fighter.

A medical team that arrived at the scene evacuated the fighter with resuscitation efforts to Hadassah Mount Scopus Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

It also emerged from the investigation that the fighter noticed a group of children among a group of adults on the bus.

He asked one of them to identify himself, and this one in response pulled out a knife and stabbed him.

Now, the checkpoint is closed to traffic and dozens of security forces arrived to reinforce the entrance to the refugee camp. Police forces detained several members of the terrorist's family.

Just two hours earlier, a 17-year-old was slightly injured in a stabbing attack in the Old City by a 14-year-old boy from Shoafat, who threw the knife and fled the scene.

A few minutes later he was caught and arrested.

MDA medics Yehuda Zand and Baruch Weissman said: "The wounded man arrived at the tunnel near the Wall while he was conscious with a stab wound in his body.

He told us that he was stabbed near the chain gate and ran towards the Western Wall.

We gave him medical treatment that included stopping the bleeding and dressing and evacuated him in a light and stable condition for further treatment at the hospital."

At the end of last month, a 13-year-old boy carried out a shooting attack in the city of David in Jerusalem and injured two people, until he was shot and arrested by armed civilians.

"13- and 14-year-old children who go out to murder Jews just because they are Jews are not lone threats. They grow up in a violent and inciting society that brainwashes them with hatred of Israel. This needs to be addressed. Inciting in prisons, in schools and on social media and charging a heavy price from the closest circle to create deterrence And the price of a loss. This is our urgent duty," wrote the minister in the Ministry of Defense, Bezalel Smotrich.

Against the background of the wave of attacks, the police in Jerusalem yesterday arrested four Palestinian boys - two of them 15 years old - on suspicion of inciting and supporting terrorism.

Three of them will be brought for a hearing on the extension of their detention, while the fourth was released under restrictive conditions.

"We take seriously any act of incitement, threats, support for terrorist organizations and terrorists or identification with them. We will continue to act against those suspects everywhere, including such acts that will be carried out in the social networks and the media arena," said the police.
