From service meetings to hallway noise, the news has been swelling in the Bordeaux hospital fabric since the end of February.

The nursing staff is worried about it even in the changing rooms of the Polyclinic of Bordeaux Nord.

Is one of Bordeaux University Hospital's two adult emergency sites about to close due to a lack of emergency physicians?

Would the flow of patients from Pellegrin or Saint-André, already difficult to contain, then shift to the mutualist clinic and the other services in the region already under strain?

A press release from the Sud social health union of the CHU de Bordeaux denounces this Thursday a possibility "

clearly announced in a very short time and for a minimum period of six months

".

The management, which refused to answer our questions verbally, formally denies it in a press release, arguing “

tracks of organizations worked in anticipation of the summer period and in a context of tension on the health system

”.

Reflections in consultation with the ARS with a view to "

major renovation work on the emergency department of Pellegrin

", further justifies the health establishment.

Ensuring that "

the permanence of emergency care and activities are systematically maintained regardless of the scenario that would be chosen

", the Bordeaux University Hospital fails to react to the understaffing of emergency doctors.

During a recent internal meeting of which

Le Figaro

became aware, a service executive nevertheless mentioned "

an open secret

" and an "

acute staffing problem

", which will force the emergencies of Pellegrin and Saint-André "

to regroup its medical staff

" from the summer and "

probably until next November

".

And this, while the emergencies of Pellegrin, already in degraded mode for a year, are in "

the medical impossibility of returning to normal functioning

”.

If no decision has been officially taken, the finding is clear: the two emergency sites and the SAMU-SMUR service will be at half mast by 30% of their workforce during the summer holidays.

"

It's enormous and it is above all the certainty that it is no longer possible to carry out schedules as we are used to doing

", continues the manager, recalling that the period is moreover conducive to taking holidays.

A speech as alarming as it is indecent for Gilbert Mounden, the staff representative of the Sud Pellegrin union, who considers that management is responsible for this failure.

Before concluding: “

The CHU

is very clearly telling us that we are not going to perform because we have not been able to keep our doctors in exhausting and rotten working conditions.

There will be consequences for patients.
