Fernando Alonso has apologized to Lewis Hamilton after freaking out at Belgium's Formula 1 race.
Zandvoort - "The heat of the moment, the adrenaline of the moment, finally fighting for second or third place made me make comments I shouldn't have made," said the Spanish Alpine rider at the Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvoort.
Alonso (41) stressed that he had great respect for Hamilton (37).
"He's a champion, a legend of our time," he said, later holding a cap signed by Hamilton for the cameras.
Both were beaming.
"What an idiot.
He only knows how to drive when he starts first,” Alonso complained about the Mercedes man a week ago in Spa after an early crash.
Record world champion Hamilton immediately took responsibility for the accident.
"It was my fault, he was in a blind spot.
That's what happens," the Englishman admitted.
Alonso now spoke out in favor of no longer transmitting the team radio because his statements would have been inflated.
"I will always try to remain calm over the air and not attend a show that I disagree with," he said.
Alonso and Hamilton were once Formula 1 teammates.
In 2007, in Hamilton's first season, they drove together for McLaren.
The dispute between the two drivers was a crucial test for the racing team.
