The Bar-On family, the Organization of Journalists and Journalists, businessman Ofer Grill, founder of Shobah Engineering Company, announce the launch of the award named after the journalist and creator, the late Modi Bar-On, for outstanding journalism in the field of sports.
The award is fully supported by the Israel Sports Channel, the media platform that has become the home of Modi Bar-On since 1994.
The prize will amount to 18,000 shekels each year and is intended for journalists, media people, content creators and docu creators from all fields of media, and will be awarded in a festive ceremony in early June 2023 for journalistic work, or a work related to the world of Israeli sports.
It will be possible to submit nominations for the award until March 31, 2023 for articles, works and works published starting from January 2022.

The purpose of the award is to encourage original journalistic and media work in the field of sports, in the spirit of the work of the late creator and media personality Modi Bar-On. In the considerations for awarding the award, an advantage and special attention will be given to works that align with his spirit, values of giving, exposing injustices and focusing on the social and geographic periphery."
The late Modi Bar-On was a media and theater person, actor, director, teacher, screenwriter, writer and creator of documentary content, and the legendary presenter of the Champions League studio on the Sports Channel, a position he held regularly since 1994. Alongside his work as a presenter, he created and produced many documentary series Together with his partner Anat Seltzer, the series gave a broad and in-depth look at Israeli society, its history and its cultural and social diversity.
Modi's unique approach in everything he did, his color, wit, humor and intelligence made him an extraordinary figure, loved and appreciated in every home in Israel, a figure that will forever be remembered in our hearts.
Modi died of a serious illness at the end of May 2022, a day after his last article was published as part of the broadcast of the Champions League final.
