"Gears 5" (Xbox One, PC)

The "Gears of War" series delivers reliable action-packed cover shooters, in which monster after monsters over the pile is shot. Muscled guys are out and about with gigantic creaks. The new "Gears 5", however, takes a different approach. The story focuses this time on a protagonist: Kait Diaz.
Even the areas of the game are more expansive, can be explored extensively. It is no longer mere hose levels, in which it is always clear where the path leads to next. But the shooter gameplay remains the same - and good. Bloody fighting with cracking weapons, that is still what "Gears" especially offers. The fact that the story goes down a bit, is in the end almost no matter.

"Fire Emblem: Three Houses" (Nintendo Switch)

Do you have a good 80 hours? That's how long it takes to play through "Fire Emblem: Three Houses". The strategy role-playing game lets the player enter one of three houses of an academy, each belonging to another dominion of the continent Fódlan. Much of the game takes place in this academy, where intrigues and power-fills take place.
But the actual happening takes place on the battlefield. Here, the player must prove strategic skill, move characters on the field, select their attacks, and play the strengths. Although "Fire Emblem: Three Houses" requires a lot of time from the player, it also provides an intense and rewarding gaming experience.

An agency for paranormal, a lost brother and a protagonist who has to save the world. This could be "File X" and certainly does not tell anything new, but brings these ingredients together for a good game: "Control".
Behind it is an action adventure in which the player controls Jesse Faden, the director of the Federal Bureau of Control (FBC). But there is no official everyday life here, but much supernatural. The player fights his way through the authorities, using weapons as well as their powers, with which they spin around opponents or take control of them directly.
"Control" is especially fun where level design and game idea meet and create crazy environments. If you like games like "Quantum Brake" or "Alan Wake", you will enjoy this adventure as well.

"A Plague Tale: Innocence" (Playstation 4, Xbox One, PC)

At the center, however, is a sibling couple who wants to survive in this world full of suffering - the 14-year-old Amica, who has to take care of her sick brother. The player strives in large parts of the game not to be found - by the rats and by the Inquisition.
"A Plague Tale: Innocence" is a very emotional game that builds a terrific game world, along with characters whose stories you like to follow.

In the finest 80's aesthetics, they shoot through levels best explored by two players. Because "Wolfenstein: Youngblood" is based entirely on this co-op experience.
The game is basically playable on its own - but then it's only half as much fun. Because "Youngblood" places little value on history, but rather focuses on drastic firefights and environments designed entirely for team play.

The premise of the game is simple: the player has 22 minutes to explore a planetary system, then the sun explodes and extinguishes everything. Which areas you explore, when, what you learn, how you can do something different, these are the actual gameplay mechanisms of "Outer Wilds".
And that's exactly what makes this space game special. It offers an experience like no other game before and fascinates far beyond "playing through".

"Telling Lies" (iOS, PC)

But he looks at these videos, searches with the help of keywords for clues, combines them and comes closer to a solution. However, there is not much time left. If the player does not advance fast enough, the game starts from the beginning.
"Telling Lies" does not rely on computer-generated graphics, but on actors. What worked well for "Her Story" is continued here: an exciting and mysterious gaming experience.

"The Dark Pictures: Man of Medan" should not be played, says the developer. And yes: Couple in front of the TV to decide what terrible fate the characters should go back, actually fun, our test showed. "Man of Medan" works simple: The player steers characters through a ghost ship and has to decide in certain places, what the character should do. Run away? Fight? Confront other characters? Depending on the decision, the characters survive - or not.
In the end, "Man of Medan" is a horror game that pays off more than once. A game that on a gray evening is also a good alternative to any horror movie.
