Group in transition: This is Facebook's new logo

2019-11-05T08:31:53.842Z

Facebook wants to make it clear that the group has more to offer than just its social network. For this purpose, the company logo will now be adjusted. There was also thought about a more radical change.

Facebook has, according to its marketing director, considered a name change, so that the group with its various services is perceived not only as the operator of the social network Facebook. In the end, however, had decided against it, said Antonio Lucio the financial news service Bloomberg. The company did not want to give the impression that they run away from problems that have to do with the name Facebook. "That would have been perceived as insincere by the rest of the world," Lucio said.

On Monday, however, Facebook introduced a new logo for the group. It differs from the logo of the social network Facebook and should in future be more common among other brands of the group, such as Instagram and WhatsApp.

According to polls, many users would not know that the photo sharing platform Instagram and the chat service WhatsApp belong to the group, said Antonio Lucio. If that changed, it would also improve Facebook's image. At the same time admitted the marketing chief that a mark like WhatsApp by the clearer disclosure of their connection to Facebook could take damage at least in the short term. Facebook but accept that because you hope for a long-term positive effect.

The company had already started mentioning the name of the company in its other apps this summer. However, the connection is not emphasized too conspicuously. With the new logo, it should now be a bit more visible to users.

In addition to Instagram and WhatsApp, the Facebook group also includes the virtual reality eyewear manufacturer Oculus and the office communication platform Workplace. Through its subsidiary Calibra, Facebook wants to be a part of the digital currency sector. Under the Portal brand, the Group is developing smart displays.
