The popular messaging app in the world, Wetsap, as a surprise for the New Year, has officially stopped supporting millions of devices last night. The Facebook-owned service now serves over a billion and a half users, and quite a few of them will stop receiving the support they have had to date - including Apple, Android and Nokia users. Among the devices that will be discontinued next month and officially blacklisted, you will find iPhones running iOS 8 and below, and Android devices from all manufacturers running 2.3.7 and below. Old Nokia handsets were cut off from regular support from Wetsap yesterday. The company also shared on their support page that it had to do so in order to keep users safe on the platform, as there were quite a few security updates over the years.

This is not Wetsap's first announcement of the move, and two years ago we received the first signs of service support removal with Finnish-owned Symbian Symbian, Nokia operating system S40. A few months later, these were the company's S60s that stopped receiving regular support, while now the list of devices seems to have grown significantly. As mentioned, if you want to continue working with the Wetsap app, you must have devices running iOS 9 or higher, or if you have an Android device, operating system version 4.0.3 or higher, and if you still use the Windows Von device, then with Version 8.1 or higher. Everyone else won't be able to open a new Wetsap account, and if they try to verify an existing Wetsap account on an old device, they'll be blocked. "It was a tough decision for us, but also one that was right and justified in helping people stay in touch with friends and family through the Wetsap," said Betsap as they announced the move.

"For the best experience in the Wetsap app, we recommend that all of our Android or iOS users update it to the latest and latest version through the app store," the company wrote in a blog post. Theoretically, any Wetsap user can update their device's operating system to avoid blocking their use of the app, or otherwise, if it is not possible for them to switch the smartphone to a newer one. However, many owners of an old device will not be able to do so, which means that millions will be blocked from using Facebook service. According to Wetsap, device support cessation will begin on February 1, 2020.
