One year after the official announcement of the end of production, Volkswagen celebrates the iconic Beetle with a final tribute. The 'people's car' will be honored in fact in an animated short film entitled 'The last mile'. Produced with the Johannes Leonardo agency, the animated film describes in detail the story of a boy whose main life events - from childhood to old age - are modeled and influenced by the presence of a Volkswagen Beetle.

Car fans may recognize the details of past advertising campaigns and references to pop culture enriched by the cameos of Kevin Bacon and Andy Warhol. An interpretation of 'Let it Be', performed by the Pro Musica Youth Chorus, acts as the soundtrack of the animation. The film ends with a not too thin wink and nods to the electrified future of Volkswagen.

Complementing the film's holiday debut, Volkswagen has adorned New York's Times Square with a celebration of films, messages and suggestions for its future brand design, including a more modern Volkswagen logo. A social media campaign, mainly focused on fan content, will also take place, which will also take place on VW social media channels.
