After the massacre of 120 rabbits, the hutch “serial killer” still runs

After a year of fierce investigation, the authorities have closed the investigation into the massacre of more than 120 rabbits in the homes of private individuals.

" Dogs? But no, nobody believes it! Exclaims Liliane Le Page, in her sixties living in Minihy-Tréguier, the town most affected by the terrible and disturbing actions of the famous serial killer of Trégor rabbits in Côtes-d'Armor. An incongruous affair that shook Brittany in late 2018, and is now closed without action.

Between March 2018 and the start of 2019, around 120 rabbits in at least five municipalities in the sector (Minihy-Tréguier, La Roche-Derrien, Pommerit-Jaudy, Coatréven and Langoat) were coldly killed in the middle of the night or during a brief absence from their owners. These pennies found their animals on the ground, often aligned in front of the door of their hutches.

According to veterinarians, most trampled and brutally beaten; others, killed with what appeared to be a blunt object. Some families have had several visits to this "serial killer" of rabbits, who seemed to return to pursue his dark designs and macabre scenes.

And then, at the start of 2019, nothing. After considerable resources deployed to try to shed light on this somewhat crazy story, the investigators installed thermal cameras in front of some hutches that had already been "visited" in the past. "There was a very serious work of the gendarmes using important technical means, specifies Antoine Loussot, deputy of the public prosecutor of Saint-Brieuc, who closely followed the file. Images collected several times enabled us to see that there were stray dogs who came to the hutches, managed to stand up to the level of the rabbits and put their legs on the cages - without necessarily opening them. "

Shocked owners

These dogs have been identified and their owners have been notified. "Another element which would corroborate the importance of these images, the expertise of veterinarians which suggests that the marks on certain bodies could be marks of fangs", adds Antoine Loussot, before concluding: "For a year has been there have been no new facts in the past. We therefore headed for a classification without further action. "

The owners who were victims of these acts which all agree to describe as "barbarians" were particularly shocked. Marie-Françoise and Eugène L'Héréder, 77 and 80, who have been visited by this rabbit killer on several occasions, find this canine conclusion “improbable”: “On certain facts, we agree that it could have was the work of a dog, but in most cases it is impossible: there is a human behind. The couple said, in October 2018, having seen a strange-looking individual prowling in this very rural area, with properties often far from each other.

"We have already had a dog attack and it is not at all the same thing," sighs another victim. “Dogs gnaw on wires, shake their prey, leave blood and hair everywhere. In our case, the doors were open, and the animals were trampled on, run over, then aligned in a certain way. "

"A person who is used to entering people's homes!"

In many of these individuals, the hutches were sometimes well hidden on their grounds. "With us, you have to know that they are there," says the same resident. "It has to be someone who sneaks everywhere, or someone who is used to entering people's homes!" It's very worrying… especially since we don't know what this person could be capable of afterwards. "

In the case of Liliane and Jean-Alain Le Page, one of their young rabbits had even been "carefully placed on his mother's stomach, whose body was aligned with the others", a few meters from the hutches. "The corpses were as if intact, did not bear the slightest trace of fang or blood. "

“Today, we still wonder if someone is watching us. But is filing the case and putting everything on the backs of dogs also a way to provoke it? if she asks. We'll see. "
