You got stuck in the rain without an umbrella? What is better? Walk or run? Physicists have also battled on this issue, but the artificial intelligence model has a definitive answer after 300 attempts

So what better way to run in the rain or walk? When do we get less wet? This question engages many and perhaps all of us, each time we are caught outside under a meter and without an umbrella, and in light of the last few days, has become ever more relevant.

Adi Goldenberg in a cute and entertaining status that recently raised this question in the Facebook group "The Rise of the Machines". For the benefit of the US Pillars of sorts, let's start with the bottom line: it's better to run. And now for an explanation.

In 2003, the MythBusters program decided it was better to walk in the rain than to run to stay drier after doing an experiment that showed running a little more water than walking. In 2012, the YouTube channel Minute Physics stated, however, that it is actually better to stand in the rain and thus remain drier as the rain has only rained on us from above and the rain meets us from the sides as well. Because people actually have to come to places, it's not that relevant.

And to explain that witness: Just recently, a Greek guy named Giorgio Demostanus used artificial intelligence to decide the issue. Giorgio has developed on the basis of the graphic engine "Unity" a physical 3D environment in which a likable figure moves a certain distance while a very realistic rain particle component lands on it.

On the environment, Demostanus added an artificial intelligence algorithm to enhance the character in which the character has two goals: to get from point A to point B and stay as dry as possible. The character can choose any such test with walking speed or running speed to perform the goal optimally. After about 300 tests, the result was decided. The figure gives 88% preference for running over walking to stay drier until it reaches its destination (Demostanus also tested the assumption for heavier people with a larger body - where the significance is even greater ...).

So the next time you get stuck in the pouring rain without an umbrella, start running - but carefully, so as not to slip or fall.
Dry and safe winter for all of us.
