Suzuki has passed instructions to its agents in Europe, to immediately stop receiving new orders for Suzuki Jimi, the miniature and beloved SUV. This is because of stringent CO2 pollution regulations that will take effect in 2021. The new regulations limit the level of air pollution to a maximum of 95 grams 2CO per kilometer, which requires a cessation of the sale of pollutant models. A manufacturer who fails to meet this stringent EU will be fined, which is why manufacturers are delaying the sale of contaminant models.

The future lies in a hybrid-easy

Suzuki's solution to the problem is a hybrid-lightweight engine, but its development will take a long time. The Vitra 1.4-liter with a lightweight 48-volt hybrid system will soon be introduced, but the Jimi K15B engine has no such system. In the automatic version, the Jimny emits 170 grams of 2CO per mile, so marketing will be stopped. At this stage, it is unclear when Jimi will be shown to be able to meet future stringent standards. This regulation will not affect Jimi sales in non-European markets but unfortunately, in the absence of American standards, due to Suzuki's lack of this market in recent years, we are bound to the European continent on this issue.

The British intend to introduce a 'commercial' 1N version of Jimi, without a back seat, in 2021. Such a "commercial" version is not subject to air pollution restrictions, and it may return Jimney to the UK. But with us, the British mandate has been canceled, and this combination will not save us from failure.

Introduced in 2018, the new Suzuki Jimny has become a real hit in world markets, despite a low safety score it received in crushing tests and despite its modest dimensions, its charm is that it is a true SUV, with assemblies and terrain capabilities that are no longer acceptable today. The refurbished Jimi is no longer as cheap as it used to be, but still, it is much more available than any 4X4 alternative sold today in the world and in Israel - NIS 125,000 for a manual model, 137,000 for the automatic version. The Jimiani combines excellent offenses with a much cheaper purchase and upkeep than classic terrain alternatives such as Land Cruiser, Raxton or Wrangler. It would be a shame to see him disappear from the Israeli showrooms again.

500 Suzuki Jimi units have so far been sold in Israel due to importer's difficulties in obtaining vehicle quota from the manufacturer. If you order Jimani today, you should receive it for the coming June; This is so if the new regulations do not interrupt the import process.
