The Vienna prosecution has just closed the investigation opened for "provocation to racial hatred" against the young high school student Mila, this high school student victim of death threats after having insulted Islam on social networks. A highly sensitive affair to which members of the government have tried to respond in recent days, sometimes reinforcing the controversy.
"The investigations carried out for the purpose of exploiting the remarks broadcast, of analysis of their contextual dimension, of the personality of their authors and of the pursued ends, did not reveal any element likely to characterize this criminal offense", indicated this Thursday the public prosecutor of Vienna, Jérôme Bourrier, in a press release.
This procedure had outraged the defenders of Mila, who rebelled at the return of the "blasphemy offense" in France, a concept that no longer exists in French law since 1881. The Minister of Justice Nicole Belloubet is also the subject many critics after having assimilated the criticism of religions on Wednesday morning to "an attack on freedom". An "awkwardness" she later recognized.
Differentiate "freedom of expression" and appeal to "hatred against believers"
The prosecution wanted to explain the reason for this preliminary investigation. In one of the videos, Mila notably declared: “Islam is a religion of hate. The Koran is shit […] Your religion is shit, your God, I put a finger in my asshole, thank you goodbye ”. She explained that she made these comments after being insulted and harassed by Internet users, who came to worry her after she refused advances from one of them.
In parallel, the national gendarmerie continues its work to identify the cyber-stalkers of the minor schoolgirl, forced to follow his education remotely from his video posts. These suspects, authors of homophobic, sexist and racist insults, number in the thousands.
