Sonic Yoth: "Sonic The Movie" is a cool movie that wants to embrace

Let's start, in the "Grandma Operation" tradition, our fastest. We'll do this with "Sonic the Movie": the adaptation of the hedgehog's favorite video game that runs faster than the wind. This project actually started with stuttered steps, when his first trailer became a punching bag due to fatal reviews of his hero's design. The creators and producers quickly apologized and returned it to the garage for a vigorous repair session, which also raised questions about the future of the film industry: whether, due to the effectiveness and immediacy of social networking, and against the endless finishing options that modern technology allows, we enter into an era where the products will come to fruition And did you rise to the screens?

In the meantime, one thing is certain: the surgery was successful and the patient was alive and kicking. Sometimes, as in the case of "Cats," fixing makes the movie look worse than it was in the first place, but the hedgehog came out very cute, and the result is Renina.

This is Jeff Fowler's first feature length feature film that was revealed in the decade after he was nominated for an Oscar for the wonderful Gopher Broke animated film. He describes how the agile hedgehog accidentally rolls to Earth, on the way from one planet to another, and finds himself being hunted by a mad scientist played by Jim Carrey. In his defense, a small-town sheriff (James Madsen), who dreams of promoting the big city, is pressed and his partner is played by Tika Sampter, who, among other things, embodied Michelle Obama in "Southside with You."

The main virtue of this hit is the character design. The Hedgehog is incredibly endearing, a couple of his human friends equally, and we were happy to adopt us as well, or even settle for a dinner invitation. On the other hand, Jim Carrey is an obvious but successful cast for the role of the crazy genius, adding a whiff of audacity and insanity to a movie that might have been commercialized and softened.

The film is distributed here in its original version and dubbed copies, and is definitely suitable for all ages: it has intense action scenes, but they are not too scary, and it has humor, but is not silly and non-offensive. Overall, the fast hedgehog has managed to jump above all the potholes awaiting him on his way to the acorns, resulting in a graceful, fun and joyous hit that leaves a taste for more and anticipation for the inevitable pledge.

Too Simple Love: "Too Simple Love" is a beautiful but minor movie

We will return to the world of film for the whole family, but we will stop at a movie for an adult audience, even a very mature one.

It's about "simple love," a chamber drama that actually has only two characters: a pensioner and his or her spouse, who has cancer. Director Lisa Barros d'Assa follows the two through all stages of the illness: from her discovery, through the treatments to the crisis she creates in the fragile life of the couple, who has recently lost his only daughter and is left alone in the world.

The protagonists are portrayed by two of the best players on the British Isle: Liam Nissan, who here continues his stated attempt to retire from the world of action he has specialized in over the past two decades and return to more dramatic character roles; And Leslie Manville, for many years a regular actress in Mike Lee's films, which is now receiving a late international flourish thanks to the appearance of Paul Thomas Anderson's "Hidden Wires" two years ago. Both illustrate why the global admiration for the British game world is so great and so justified.

"Simple Love" is not a Hollywood movie, and so it does not hesitate to present some of the characters that are quite rare to see on screens, at least in English-speaking dramas. For example: a love scene between a middle-aged couple and another in which the female rib is diseased, and has lost her hair due to radiation therapy. This intercourse is presented here in a manner that is grave and just as gentle and beautiful.

However, as the film develops, so does it become clear that he does not intend to go all the way. The range of emotions, the willingness to challenge viewers, the intensity of the drama - everything remains within the minor boundaries, and prevents "simple love" from approaching contemporary classic ankles like Michael Hanka's "Love" for example, which dealt with similar but far more far-reaching issues.

Therefore, it is also unclear who exactly faces "simple love". On the one hand, it is a difficult and depressing film that is not suitable for a wide audience and in all circumstances and moods, and on the other, it is not sufficiently rewarding for those who invested in it and far from being a masterpiece of quality. It remains, then, to see it as nothing more than a stage for the wonderful game shows of two great craftsmen who, despite their long careers, have something to prove. Nissan, after all, is mostly associated with hit action such as "Kidnapped" and Manville is best known for gems. Luckily for us, the film world now offers more roles than golden age actors today, and in light of the qualities of two "simple love" stars, we can believe that we will both see many and frequent in the coming years, getting better opportunities in films slightly better.

Whoop, phew: "Ancient Voice" is a nightmare for dog lovers

And here is another product that is not so clear what its target audience is, but this time it is something completely different: another adaptation of "Koll Kedumim", Jack London's classic book. Inspired, the film follows the hardships of a dog of large size and heart, in the late 19th century United States: the culmination of the golden panic that has made some of the people around him greedy and cruel ever. Fortunately, here and there, he also meets true friends, played by Omar C. ("Connected to Life"), while a miserable Hollywood role, and Harrison Ford.

Besides Buck, there are many other dogs in the movie, and they are all computer creations. Seemingly, this is good news for those who go for four: Not only does "Ancient Voice" allow us to relish the wonders of our best friends, but it does without anyone having to suffer during filming.

But in fact, dog lovers are expected to have a difficult experience: the puppies in the movie experience a never-ending sequence of horrors and humiliations, absorbing abuses by humans and often disappointing one another. One of the highlights, for example, describes how Buck is required to eliminate his evil rival, the Husky dog, and does so with great violence.

So, it's not so clear who the movie is headed for: it will be too scary for kids, but for adults it's too childish. So maybe the target audience is Harrison Ford fans, a player known for his selectivity rather than his resume being made up mostly of modern classics? Well, the veteran craftsman is starring in the poster and trailers, but his screen time here is limited and drowsy, so he can't save "Ancient Voice."

The film was directed by Chris Sanders, an animator who has signed some great hits, headed by the wonderful "My First Dragon", but less successful in his attempt to combine computer technologies and flesh and blood players. In the zoological competition in the halls this week, between the dogs of Kol Kedumim and the prickly animal in the Sonic movie, the hedgehog has no doubt won.

Flavorless Water: "The watershed" is a legal drama that is all cliche

And we'll end with what turns out to be the least successful of the four. This, though signed by Todd Haines - one of the most esteemed American directors of our generation, who has signed to acclaimed works such as "Far from Heaven" and "Carol."

Haines is primarily associated with artistic films and queer cinema, but here he chooses to swim in the waters of legal drama, presenting the story of Robert Billot, a rather junior lawyer who decided to go to Don Quixote's fight in Goliath, and sue the giant duPont corporation, which has poisoned the American public for years with its chemicals And plastered his crimes.

Mark Rafflow, one of Hollywood's idealistic personalities, embodies the lawyer; Ann Hathaway is his couple, and the cast also includes names like Tim Robbins and Bill Pullman. All of this, as well as Haines's hand-held and fine photographer Ed Lachman, do not extricate the film from the impetuous water in which it soars.

Ideal is not enough. From the "watershed" (Photo: PR)

Good intentions, the story is interesting and the story is important, but there is not a single moment in the film that is not a cliché or worn paperwork. The "watershed" seems not to be based on reality, but on the cliché dictionary of legal dramas. No wonder it failed at the box office, and the important cry in which he fell on deaf ears.

It is a pity, as it is better for the whole world to know the story presented here, but apparently movie theater is no longer the way to tell it. Today, a docu or podcast was probably a more ideal format. "The watershed," with the scents of nineties rising from it, is a not-so-irrelevant product that even manages to lose the fantasy of a hedgehog talking in competition for the most equal movie title released at the weekend for screeners.
