A man in his fifties killed his ex-partner on Sunday before committing suicide in a village in the Var near Brignoles, we learned from concordant sources.
The facts took place shortly after 7 am in the town of Val, said a source familiar with the matter, confirming information from Var-Matin.

The man, a police officer stationed in Toulon, went to the home of his ex-partner, in his forties, and shot him several times. He then turned his gun against him, the same source said. The victim, aged about forty, was raising two teenagers alone, according to Var-Matin.
The criminal investigation technicians of the Var gendarmerie group were dispatched to the scene to conduct surveys at the crime scene.
The case brings to at least ten the number of alleged femicides since the beginning of the year, according to an AFP count. In 2019, at least 126 cases were identified, an average of one woman killed every three days.
