Three telecoms relays burnt down in Isère, the series continues

Locally, all telephone operators were affected and the broadcasting of local and national radios was interrupted. The track of

They continue to taunt the authorities, gendarmes, police and magistrates. On the night of Sunday to Monday, May 18 in the Grenoble region of Isère, individuals set fire to two TDF (Télédiffusion de France) relays, Jarrie and Seyssinet-Pariset and a telephone relay to Herbeys. The “track of the ultra-libertarian left” is privileged.

The consequences of these attacks were to interrupt the broadcasting of 16 radio stations (including RTL, Europe 1 and France Bleu Isère), to damage mobile telephone relays (Bouygues, SFR and Free) and to deprive TNT of a large part of the Grenoble conurbation.

The fires were lit at the base of the pylons. In Seyssinet-Pariset, on the transmitter of the Tour-sans-Venin, many cables have melted and it will take several days to repair the damage. In Jarrie, a grid was cut to access the site and a Molotov cocktail was launched inside a technical room. It is probably an operation mounted by several people: in view of the times of the attacks (2:45 for Seyssinet-Pariset and 3:21 for Jarrie), it seems difficult to imagine that a single man was behind these three fires .

A mode of action on the Internet

The prosecutor of the Republic of Grenoble, Eric Vaillant, clarified that, in the absence of claim, "the track of the ultra-libertarian left remains privileged, taking into account the local precedents, even if the track of the plotters who accuse the antennas spreading the coronavirus cannot be excluded ”. The magistrate reported the facts to the national anti-terrorist prosecutor's office, which has not yet taken up the case. The Grenoble gendarmerie research section was responsible for the investigation.

For several weeks, a very explicit document has been circulating on websites close to the ultra-left. It is entitled: "How to destroy a relay antenna". The mode of action of the “perfect little arsonist” is exposed in four stages and ends with this sentence: “Against 5G and the world that needs it”. These actions developed in the middle of sanitary confinement when the authorities mentioned a project to set up a digital tracking application "Stop Covid" for the follow-up of people affected by the disease.

In the past three years, arson, claimed by the ultra-left, has also multiplied in the region. The gendarmeries of Grenoble and Meylan were targeted, businesses, the media (France Bleu Isère public service radio), a cultural center, the town hall of the Grenoble town hall.

An environment "very airtight, very difficult to infiltrate"

On October 26, 2017, the attack on the Meylan gendarmerie almost turned into a drama. In the middle of the night, several gendarmes' cars parked under a residential building were set on fire. Smoke and flames are mounted against the facade. The gendarmes and their families evacuated the scene in extremis. Despite the major means put in place, the perpetrators of these fires have never been identified. "This environment is very airtight, very difficult to infiltrate," says an investigator.
