Huge corporations and companies announced Monday that they will stop advertising promotions on Facebook as part of the social network struggle. Two giant companies, including The North Face and Patagonia, have announced they are joining the fight as part of a boycott campaign organized by US civil rights organizations.
The protest comes against the backdrop of Facebook's CEO's policy toward US President Donald Trump's problematic messages while social networking Twitter decided to mark the US president's tweets. In an interview, Zuckerberg claimed that Facebook had a different policy than Twitter about this, and that Twitter should not have acted like a cop.
Now, Facebook may pay quite a bit of money. "We will stop posting all ads on Facebook and Instagram immediately, by the end of July at least, and await significant action from the social media giant," they said on The North Face, adding: "We will not post until significant steps are taken to stop racism, violence and hate."
And this is a boycott that can seriously hurt Facebook. Social network estimates put $ 70 billion in advertising last year, a second after Google ranked first, according to Reuters. Patagonia alone invested $ 1 million in advertising in 2019.
