AMG, the sports brand of Mercedes, still raises the bar of its front-engined GT berlinetta with the new edition of the Black Series which proposes an unprecedented variant - characterized by the black plate from which the series name derives - of the V8 4.0 that raises the power at 730 hp.
This is the M178 LS2 engine derived from the racing world, with dry sump lubrication and two new larger turbochargers, which provide 1,100 kg of air per hour (by way of comparison in the GT R this value is 900 kg) and which optimize only the efficiency, quantifiable in 800 Nm of torque, but they guarantee prompt and always 'full' responses to each speed. The 0-100 acceleration is achieved in 3.2 seconds, the 0-200 acceleration in less than 9 seconds and the maximum speed, in the absence of limits, is 325 km / h. The response of the AMG Speedshift DCT 7G double clutch transmission with transaxle architecture (positioned on the rear differential) for optimal weight distribution and completed by a carbon transmission shaft is also at the highest levels. The Race Start function has also been revised and is now even more 'impressive' because the release occurs at a higher number of revolutions and because the combination of the new limited slip differential and the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R MO tires developed specifically for this model offers very high traction adhesion. Even the intervention of AMG experts on aerodynamics now makes the GT Black Series one of the most sophisticated sports cars from this point of view. Taking advantage of the experience gained with the GT3 and GT4, the car has been optimized - with a valuable aesthetic result - also in the behavior at high and very high speeds, with significant improvements in the aerodynamic pressure on the front (to increase the drivability) and on the rear axle ( to increase grip) and a complete redesign of the air flows on the car body, leaving the engine hood and along the underbody. The front splitter in carbon manually adjustable in two positions (Street & Race and Race) and the large rear wing, also in carbon, stand out. In this element there is an upper plate which can vary, with an electroactuated control, its position by 20 degrees. The operation is automatically managed by the AMG Dynamics system in the Basic, Advanced, Pro and Master positions, with a function that makes it retract completely over 250 km / h to reduce aerodynamic drag. The suspensions that, like in the AMG GT R, use racing elements (including many carbon parts) and the AMG Ride Control system that perfectly supports, in track use, the functioning of the Ang Traction Control when they are deactivated are also decidedly refined. all the functions of the ESP.
