A man suspected of having caused sixteen fires in Plancoët (Côtes-d'Armor) was indicted and imprisoned, according to the gendarmerie of Dinan. The first quarter of 2020 was marked "by several nocturnal fires" in Plancoët, creating "a climate of insecurity for the population", indicate the gendarmes in a press release.
The suspected arsonist set fire to hedges, garbage cans and residential annexes. He also tried to set fire to an electrical transformer and would be the cause of the fire at the Hyper U service station. This incident, which occurred on the night of July 1 to 2, generated significant damage and could have had serious consequences, in particular because of the explosion of gas cylinders. Fifty people had to be evacuated. In total, sixteen fires were identified and contained in the city center of Plancoët, a town of 3,000 inhabitants.
A working group, set up by the Dinan gendarmerie company under the authority of the Saint-Malo judicial court, made it possible to find the perpetrator. The suspect was taken into custody on Tuesday and then charged. He was remanded in custody, the gendarmes also said.
