An 18-month-old baby, originally from Champigny-sur-Marne (Val-de-Marne), died on Tuesday overturned by the little tourist train in Cannes. An investigation was opened by the police, said the town hall and firefighters, confirming information from Nice-Matin.
According to the town hall, the little train, operated by a private company approved by the municipality, was running at walking pace when the child found himself between the locomotive and the first car of the train without anyone seeing it. The toddler would have suddenly left running, indicates Nice -Matin.
The accident happened on the Croisette before 4 p.m. Municipal lifeguards quickly intervened. The firefighters then tried to revive the boy, already in cardio-respiratory arrest on their arrival, but their efforts were unsuccessful.
Four people, in shock after the tragedy, were taken to hospital, including the mother of the child and the driver of the little train. The latter will have to be heard later. The little train will no longer run for several days, notes Nice-Matin.
