Terrible holiday drama for a family in Cerisy-la-Forêt (Manche). While a 5-year-old girl was playing with her 10-year-old sister, around 2:50 p.m. Tuesday, on a path, a combine harvested her fatally.
The family, originally from Marcq-en-Barœul, in the Lille agglomeration (North), was visiting another member of the family.
"The 23-year-old driver of the agricultural machine, belonging to an agricultural works company, obviously did not see the child," explains the mayor of the town, Jean-Pierre Ledouit, to Ouest-France.
The operator of the agricultural machine, an employee of a farming company, struck the girl on his way to a wheat field.
Alcohol and drug tests came back negative for the young man who was taken into custody and then released. The gendarmerie is investigating to determine the exact circumstances of the accident.
