The summer of all dangers. As we mentioned this Monday in a large file devoted to the risk of drowning exacerbated this year by the context of post-containment and heatwave, the tragedies are increasing in recent weeks.
Tuesday afternoon, an 8-year-old child drowned in a municipal body of water in Champdor-Corcelles, in Ain. The boy died around 3:30 p.m., reports Le Progrès, despite rescue attempts.
A lifeguard took the child out of the water and gave him first aid, before using a defibrillator, explains the local daily. But when the firefighters and two teams from Smur (Mobile Emergency and Resuscitation Service) from Ain and Rhône arrived, it was too late.
Under investigation has been opened
The little victim was from Nantua, a town a few kilometers away. He was accompanied by his sister and his parents, regulars of the place.
After the tragedy, the hundreds of bathers had to leave the Champdor-Corcelles natural water basin, obviously in shock. The testimonies collected suggest that the boy was bathing in the paddling pool, whose concrete bottom allows to have a foot well far from the edge. This is not the case over the whole of this 2200 m2 bathing area where the bottom reaches 1.70 meters in places.
An investigation was opened and an autopsy ordered by the prosecution in order to discover the reasons for the death.
