The song "Trees" performed by the band Tomorrow`s Rain with Micha Sheetrit and Shlomi Bracha dedicated to the memory of Yossi Elephant (lyrics: Yishai Schwartz, music: Maor Applebaum and Rafael Moore, musical production, mix and mastering: Dori Bar Or, video: Rafael Ortega, photos and photos : Hagit Mor, Sharon Raz, Revital Kaplan, Yishai Schwartz, Eyal Peer and the family album of the late Yossi Elephant)

If the mythological musician Yossi Elephant had not passed away today (September 6) 29 years ago, and was still with us, what would have happened to him?

Would he stay the bad boy of rock or concentrate and become a reality judge?

Would he continue to consume hard drugs or quit and model a healthy lifestyle?

Would he stay in Israel or move abroad?

Micha Sheetrit, who worked with Elephant, tries to guess: "In my opinion, if Elephant were alive today, he would be at the top of the rock, he would have a large audience, he would fill Shoni for sure.

We would have earned some more of his excellent songs, his excellent productions.

"I think he would have lived in Israel and not abroad. And he would probably have caused Natasha to release a new original album."

"Yossi Elephant was a surprising person, so if he was with us he would do what he wanted and not knock anyone's account," says musician Shlomi Bracha ("Mashina").

"I think he would have been given an important corner in Israeli rock culture. He would probably have become an important and highly regarded musician."

An important corner in rock culture.

Elephant died during a performance at the Logos Club in Tel Aviv, as a result of a heart attack, at the age of 32, and Israeli music missed a huge musician, producer and arranger.

On the anniversary of the rock legend's death, "Trees" is released, a new song in his memory performed by the metal band Tomorrow's Rain, featuring Micha Sheetrit on vocals and Shlomi Bracha on guitar.

This is the second single from the band's debut album, "Hollow" which will be released on Helicon.

The song clip features photos from Elephant's childhood home and unseen photos of him (watch the Walla! Culture premiere above).

Elephant was one of the founders of a rhetorical band, served as guitarist, arranger and producer in Ehud Banai's refugee band, and also participated in composing and producing songs by Ehud Banai, Gidi Gov and Fortisharoff.

He passed away three months after the birth of his daughter Jasmine, and two months after the end of the recording of the album "Changes in Screaming Habits" by Natasha's friends, which he produced but died before it was released.

The band created the short song "Almost Optimistic" in his memory.

"We fell in love with Yossi at first sight, it was impossible not to," says Micha Sheetrit. He taught us a lot in the short time we played with him and that he produced us, it was a school for life. Yossi was really a great musician and guitarist, a rocker in every way, he was a person of people, he knew how to laugh, he knew how to scold.

I also liked his colorful attire.

Anyone who is interested in music at the end comes to Yossi Elephant.

He is at the top of the Hall of Fame. "

Shlomi Bracha says that" Seder Yom "is, in his opinion," one of the best songs written in the country.

On the one hand, he was supposedly the bad boy of rock, on the other hand, his soul was beautiful and delicate, and you can hear that in his music and lyrics. "

The song "Trees" was written by the leader of the band Tomorrow`s Rain, Yishai Schwartz, and composed by Maor Applebaum and Rafael Moore.

It was dedicated to Elephant against the background of the fact that Schwartz lived as a child in Ramat Gan in the building where Elephant grew up.

"Yossi moved into the building during his childhood, and I grew upstairs," says Schwartz.

"Our families knew each other, my grandfather knew his father, both Holocaust survivors. I was 13 when he broke out and in my youth I got to see him with Ehud Banai and the refugees, and that's one of the biggest influences on me, I connected to the avant-garde and minimalism of his guitars. , He brought European rock and roll from abroad.

"He even released the first Israeli indie record with a rhetorical band

." "She said that as a child, Elephant went downstairs with her to the neighborhood sand, took kitchen pots, turned them over, drummed on them and sang Speedy Gonzalez."

His son described Elephant's style in the country as "careful negligence."

Sheetrit: "There's something about it. On the one hand, he had negligence that came from his walking, standing and hands that always fell to the sides, and also stemmed from a certain release in his playing. On the other hand, he was really meticulous in the sound section. I accept the definition, meticulous negligence, no I know if it's because of a situation where you're in Sotol, and there's a sense that you're sloppy, but you're actually in full focus on what's important at the moment.

Bracha: "This is an accurate definition. Because on the one hand Elephant had perfectionism, he was very meticulous about every little detail, from the sound of the guitar to the outfit he wore, on the other hand he had a wild, scattered and inaccurate lifestyle."

Elephant's death at a young age, during a performance, reinforced the myth surrounding him as a mythological rocker.

Is it a dream, to die on stage?

Sheetrit: "I do not dream of dying on stage, I want to return home after performances, to see who I love. My dream is to die without anguish, with my family at a very extreme age, when my family members are next to me and we are separated in turn. I love life." .

Ricky Gal will also be a guest on Tomorrow`s Rain's album "Hollow", in a song in which she will perform metal music for the first time in her life.

The single will come out in two versions, longer and heavier called "Fear" and more subtle called "Silent Fear".

Yishai Schwartz says the connection with the veteran singer was formed after he saw her on a show at night telling of a performance by Irish heavy rock band Thin Lizzy which she watched in the 1970s, "Then hit me I want her to hear the stuff, all rock 'n' roll at heart, she will understand me".

Ricky, once sang "She would like to be a rock girl".

At 70, do you want to be a metal singer?

"No, not really, but I love it regardless. Yishai made me fall in love with metal in depth. There are all kinds of metal. I think they brought something interesting inside it, and the fact that it's in Hebrew is a bonus."

The relationship between you and Yishai began as a music teacher and student.

Was it weird to record a song with your student?

"There was no distance between teacher and student, there was first and foremost mutual respect. My connection with Yishai is deep. We started as a student and teacher, and in fact it became a kind of creative partnership. I saw deep into the materials Yishai's very special writing and personality. I thought to myself, I am not. "She takes care of a regular student here to sing beautifully. He brought with him this singing of the growling, which activates the voice completely differently, it is true and natural for him."

The song is called "Silent Fear" and it connects with these anxious days under the masks.

What quiet or noisy fears do you have these Corona days?

"Listen, thank God I'm not sick, it's already calming. Time goes on, and I really miss and sometimes also anxiety about how it will be possible to return to singing and performances on stage. Overall I hold up well, life goes on and I find myself creating in all sorts of forms. Suddenly also "I became a painter. I'm not complaining."

Although 44-year-old Yishai Schwartz has released four albums in English and a poetry book, he is better known in the industry as a producer who imports performances by foreign bands, mainly from the metal field. "A child does not dream of being a producer, he dreams of being a musician," says Schwartz. Feels that behind every concert producer there is a frustrated musician.

Every producer would give up the profit of the show for being on stage and holding the guitar.

I performed in Roxanne in the 90s in the bands I had but it never rose and did not last beyond one album in the whole band.

10 years ago, after the first incarnation of Tomorrow`s Rain band, I pretty much gave up and said I would stay on the other side of the role.

I felt that my life was quite settled and established and that it was a bit difficult for me to get into the emotional commitment to sing this content and unload my gut.

”“ With time, life changes and divorce, I felt the need to deal with this content again as a kind of positive healing.

The pursuit of creation and art releases a lot of emotions and strengthens.

So in 2011 I rebuilt the band, in 2016 I met Yaakov Gilad as part of a magazine I had, I showed him the lyrics and he said to me - listen, you must sing it in Hebrew.

It can not be only in English.

The enthusiasm for what I am from Gilad, the man responsible for the most important album in Israeli music, Poliker 'Ash and Dust', gave me a lot of confidence and encouragement and a kosher stamp. "

Following the Corona crisis, performances by metal bands that you were supposed to bring to Israel were postponed Tiamat. How much did it hurt you?

"

I was supposed to have gigs in April, May and October.

All of them were of course postponed to the second date, and some were postponed to the third date.

And there are bands that have announced the dates of the alternative shows in advance, in case the set date will not be possible because of the corona.

I spent money not returned on advances to bands, airline tickets on El Al and online advertising.

There were many hours of work on it.

To my delight, the ensembles do not give up on Israel, everyone wants to arrive as soon as possible and understand the situation, and the audience is very loyal, supportive and understanding and no one asked for their money back for postponed performances.

If you were to ask me in April when the story would end, I would say June-July, the roof of August and we are behind it.

Now we are in September, and in my opinion there will also be no performances from abroad in November.
