Few people know that for several years the esteemed American father of the actor and creator Maayan Blum lived as a homeless man.

"My father, Charles, lived until two years ago as a homeless man on a traffic island that is a kind of woodland in Vermont," Bloom reveals in an interview with Walla!

Culture, "Vermont is close to Canada, so it's cold that can reach minus 20 degrees. Whole winters he sleeps outside. He never really had money, even when he lived in the country. He always loved to travel and spent part of his life wandering. And when he was wandering he got used to it. Sleeping outside, for months.Sometimes I would do some of these trips with him.But with him it was really long, for months, and when he ran out of money and got tired of black jobs like being a taxi driver, he just moved to live outside, in the natural place he felt comfortable. "Later he moved to Lormont, and what happened was that he also got older, and was in a new place and didn't know how to get by, so he just got stuck. And he spent about three years outside, on this traffic island."

Charles (Chuck) is an American who immigrated to Israel as a volunteer on a kibbutz, married his mother, who worked as a playwright, and they gave birth to Maayan.

They divorced when Maayan was one year old, and when Maayan was 18, his father left Israel, not before he had time to see the plays in which Maayan participated in Thelma Yellin High School.

Bloom, who grew up about half Israeli and half American, testified that the transitions between homes and cultures undermined him.

"I worried about Dad."

"Dad is a kind of '60s refugee," Bloom says. "He went through his adolescence right at the height of the great drug queue of the time, and I have a reasonable suspicion that it also left its mark on him. The man made acid an unknown number of times being "I still have his card from Woodstock that he gave me, an event that according to his story he does not remember anything about because he took an LSD and stared at his toe the whole time he was there."

How have your father's difficulties in recent years as a homeless person affected you emotionally?

"It was very worrying, especially in the winter. It's not just a physical difficulty. That's why a lot of homeless people you see look wrong in the head, it knocks you out. I worried about him. I couldn't do much here. I didn't have that much money to help him. And he did too. "He never asks for money. After a few years he managed to overcome it, which is pretty amazing. He hasn't been in this situation for two years now, and got an apartment from the state."

"Camp with Naomi."

Maayan Blum (Photo: Reuven Castro)

Tonight (Tuesday) returns for a second season here 11 the esteemed satirical series of the IPS, which takes place in the imaginary grape prison. Bloom plays Nitai Harel, the husband of the prison headquarters Adi, played by Naomi Lvov, who manages to deal with prisoners, guards and chaos Because Nitai himself, who is in his forties, decides that his real destiny is to be a chocolatier.

Naomi Lvov, your wife in a series that also participates alongside you in the satirical show "Until Here ", she is also your friend in reality, your son and daughter are also friends and were in the nursery together. It puts your kids in a bit of confusion, that you are a couple in the series and also friends in life?

" Right, Naomi is my friend and my wife Tami.

They are best friends since they were in the nursing home.

In the summer we did a kind of joint summer camp like this.

And so, Naomi was a kindergartener for her daughter Daniela, David Benny, and Yael, the daughter of Hava Garbuz (daughter of Yair Garbuz - SB) who was in my class at Thelma Yellin in the plastic arts department. We did a traveling garden. "It's a matter. Naomi's Daniela was on the set and sitting under the table while they were filming. David was in 'Up Here' studio, and he was very enthusiastic about the cameras. Our children are more interested in Adventure Bay and less shows where people are seen."

There is no gender division.

Maayan Blum (Photo: Reuven Castro)

Your and Naomi's characters in the IPS are flooded with stereotypical perceptions about the role of the father and the role of the mother. What does the burden sharing look like in your private home?

"In the IPS, the stereotypes are extreme. The quarrels between the parents if you fit in with stand-up punches about a relationship, 'men are like this and women are like that' or if you are actually the woman in the script. Sometimes I'm here and sometimes I'm there. I'm angry at Tammy many times she's not home enough "She notices me and does not talk to me. And Tammy gets very upset with me about matters of order and cleanliness. We change roles a lot."

Last month, the satirical series "The Jews Are Coming", in which Bloom plays, caused a storm that culminated in a demonstration of 1,500 people in front of the corporation building in Jerusalem who claimed that the series violated Jewish values.

Following the storm, Bloom was disappointed with his right-wing friends who did not show up to defend the program's freedom of expression.

"I've been hearing right-wing claims for years that the media is left-wing," Bloom says.

"You know, let's be honest, there are a lot of leftists in the media, and there are claims of right-wingers not giving enough mouth to the right in the media, and that this is some kind of direct or indirect mouth-watering to people whose opinion is different from yours. "Their opinion is different from their own. They will also say something. And I have not seen it much. I challenge my right-wing friends in the media, and thank God they have more and more place in the media and it is good to respond more when they try to shut up 'Jews are coming' and stand up for freedom of expression."

The series has been around for years, what caused this powerful storm to erupt right now?

"The reason it's happening now at this intensity is that the show has more resonance, it's gained more fans this season, which I think is the best season so far. Its power grows. The more influential you become the more fire you attract, and also because the corporation has a succession of successes and plans. "Secondly, secondly, it's because at this time everyone is on the edge, just looking for something that will ignite them and ignites very quickly, and there are some people who use it for their political purposes."

good friends.

"In 'Jews Are Coming', holy figures are presented to a large part of the people, and I can understand that if they are presented in a ridiculous way, there will be people who will be indignant," Bloom adds.

"Then there are people who take that grudge and turn it into an ax to dig with, and take it further in the direction of mouth-clogging, which is an anti-democratic act in my eyes. There was also a lot of violence in the air, even if not personally because I'm a guest on the show. Players with a call to harass them, and they were harassed. There was a point I feared for their safety. Although in my opinion most of the public, even those who think 'Jews are coming' is blasphemy, are not people who will take the law into their own hands, but there may be someone who decides he does take The law is in the hands, and one is enough. And when there is an atmosphere of violence, and when there is harassment and intimidation against specific players, and publicizing their phone, in such an atmosphere something more serious can happen. It is not unreasonable, things happened. "It will happen to someone by someone. It is growing, and we are already seeing an increase in cases of domestic violence, clashes between police and protesters, and very violent discourse on the networks. The blood of the Israeli who is hot anyway, is getting hotter and hotter, and it's scary."

Even before Smutrich entered "The Jews Are Coming" with the angled claims, Bloom himself entered the prestigious club of rapper Yoav Eliassy ("The Shadow").

It happened in mid-November 2019, after Bloom shared a news item from Israel that referred to the IDF killing of members of the Islamic Jihad rocket unit commander in the center of the Strip, including three children. Bloom wrote on his Facebook page: "An entire family has disappeared from my face The land, including 13-year-old, 12-year-old, 7-year-old and two toddlers.

If it's not sick I do not know what is.

If it's not an injustice, I do not know what is. "The shadow responded to this, among other things with the words:" Here is another player who wants to go out 'beautiful-minded' in front of his friends in the barn and sells the IDF. So Mr. Maayan Blum, I went through your posts. I saw no post about Shalhevet Fass, the baby who received a sniper bullet, I saw nothing about 13-year-old Hillel Ariel who was murdered in her bed with stab wounds, silence about 17-year-old Rina Shinarev who was killed by a cargo. I can go on like this all day ..) What you are doing is a betrayal of her name.

You are doing damage to the country. "

"After this case I was subjected to curses and insults and horrible things," Bloom concludes the case, "it was stressful at first, and then I realized it's not entirely real, it's only half real, because it exists in some virtual space that is not quite reality. Then, after a few hours "The shadow wrote about Kotler's visa, and it's over."

Will this violent discourse make you more apprehensive about expressing yourself as a creator?

Maybe exercise self-censorship?

"In the case of 'The Jews Are Coming' I'm not the creator, and 'Up to Here' has not been given the same platform. That's the goal - to scare and discourage creators and people to express their opinions, to scare the corporation. It's scary. Will that translate into people not writing or publishing? I do not think. In the end, we are still a democratic state where you can write whatever you want. "So serious. He threatens to be but not yet."

Bloom, 44, attended art schools, Thelma Yellin High School and the Nissan Nativ acting studio.

Over the years, he has starred in television for "The Strip," "Comeback," "A Place to Worry," "The Office," "Lost in Africa," "Missing Case," "The Jews Are Coming," "IPS" and "The Boys." in addition to playing a film by Avi Nesher "another story", and posed for "one more story", inspired by the book "stressed Wedding" Omar lightning, directed by Guri Alfi and produced Nawi Peru and the United King. Bloom married to Tammy, daughter of the artist Dudu Geva late.

while In recent years, Bloom has been one of the most talented, esteemed and busy players in Israel, in the past there was a stage where he actually thought of leaving the game, which fortunately did not happen. "After I finished Nissan Nativ, I had no job for 4-5 years, so I became a writer.

During this time I thought I would not be an actor.

The feeling that I needed to be an actor was gone, and I felt I could quit too.

Then I went back to playing in the show 'The Strip', and then 'Place to Worry' started, then I was still both a writer and an actor and slowly the game took over and now there is only a game.

My conclusion is probably that once you stop wanting something, making an effort and being dependent on it, you give it more room to be.

And that is what happened. "

These days you are preparing for a coordinator exams for a master's degree in psychology. What are you talking about with your psychologist?

"I have been in therapy for 15 years.

My main symptom is anxiety and a tendency to depression, out of anxiety there is some kind of avoidance and lack of belonging.

The family is problematic.

Dealing with relationships. "

What difficult places did the anxiety and depression lead you to?

" There was a period of flight anxiety, which was really hard.

There were earlier depressive periods.

I think today I have a lot more control, also on the matter of depression, you could say it is already behind me.

Anxieties are still there but very much aware of what is happening.

I think the challenge now is mostly the disruptions in relationships, extreme and volatile in relationships - being too close or being far away.

That is the challenge. "

"I regret places I have been to and should not have been in, or should have been more honest with myself and others in them. "Confused, because it's just causing damage later."

You have gained a lot of recognition mainly as a comedian, but you are a talented versatile actor whose dramatic side is less known to the general public.

Would you like to do more on the dramatic front?

"I'm a comedic actor, and it's probably the side that stands out and comes out to me and what people have adopted. I'm an advanced comedian, and proud of it. On the other hand I have dramatic abilities, I was in 'Missing Bag' "Avi Nesher and in a film by Guri Alfi, which is finished and as soon as there is a cinema he will leave. There I do a role that is both funny but also romantic that I have never done."

I'm not Udi Kagan.

Maayan Blum (Photo: Reuven Castro)

Along with the much appreciation you have won in the industry, it seems to me that your face is very well known in the public, but you do not necessarily know what your name is, because you are on the verge of a big break.

"I do not have a paparazzi outside the house, the only time I was photographed by a paparazzi was when I was sitting with Guri Alfi. I have not so much interest in public life, that it's a funny thing to say during an interview. I'm not busy with my image either. And I do not have Instagram. My nowhere, my personal agent, Dana Litwin, asks me to send it to her and she posts it. She's a great agent, who transcends me to the right places, a wonderful man. Half the times I am recognized is because they think I'm Udi Kagan. By the way, the shadow was unpleasant to me. "Quite a few people in the comments wrote that they did not intend to see my show, 'Messiah', and I felt uncomfortable that just because I was also chubby with an elliptical face thought I was him."
