Purchases 415 buses from Mercedes
Daimler's Commercial Division received a very large order for buses destined for Israel.
The order received on Thursday evening includes 415 bus chassis in a division of 156 intended for long-distance travel (OC500RF) and another 259 units of urban chassis (OC500LE).
The bodies will be manufactured (according to the announcement) here in Israel.
The CEO of the bus division in Daimler, Mr. Till Overroder, said "the order of 415 units is one of the largest in the history of our company."
The chassis are manufactured at the Samao factory in Spain and from there will be sent to Israel for bodybuilders.
Daimler will supply the chassis during the current year and later in 2021.
Such supply is to bind.
Daimler (Mercedes)'s representative in Israel is Colmobil, which conducted the tender with Egged.
Emil Krain, CEO of the Transportation and Transportation Division: “Winning the tender puts us in the market of municipal buses, which we did not have a solution for in the past.
"Our urban model has been tested and proven in terms of fuel consumption, reliability and expenses throughout the work period."
The annual sales of the bus division in Daimler stand at about 33,000 units a year.
However, the Corona crisis, the closures it brought, and the collapse of the tourism industries led to a 63% drop in sales.
Such a big deal gives Daimler a very strong back wind.
