The layout of this place of worship erected between -2500 years and -1500 years BC, between the end of the Neolithic and the Bronze Age, also suggests that it could have a solar calendar function, the arrangement of stones allowing measurements to be taken in relation to the position of the Sun in the sky.

Were these ceremonies reserved for an elite or large gatherings?
In the absence of a written culture, archaeological evidence is still lacking to answer these questions definitively, although there is every indication that the place must have had significant regional cultural influence, throughout Great Britain and possibly beyond.
