Corona: what good is Söder's plan for a traffic light?

R value, seven-day incidence, percolation effect: many people no longer see through the pandemic. Bavaria's Prime Minister is now proposing a three-stage model.

According to epidemiologists, the number of new infections is not enough as a criterion for the traffic light alone

A frog thrown into hot water immediately jumps away.

If, on the other hand, you put it in lukewarm water and slowly increase the temperature, the animal will remain crouching until it boils.

Biologists have already dispelled this myth several times, but it persists as a paraphrasing for the inability to respond adequately to insidious threats.

If you will, Germany is currently sitting in a glass of uncomfortably warm water that is gradually heating up.

The number of corona infections is increasing.

But how much can we withstand and when is it time to jump out of the hot water?

This is exactly what the federal and state governments should discuss on Tuesday.

At the right time for the upcoming negotiations, Bavaria's Prime Minister and possible candidate for chancellor of the Union (even if he always rejects it himself), Markus Söder, brought a nationwide uniform Corona traffic light into play in the "Süddeutsche Zeitung".

Such a system already exists in Berlin, and politicians from several parties can take advantage of the idea.

Even NRW Prime Minister Armin Laschet, who crossed Söder several times during the corona crisis, is in favor of a corona traffic light.

In the draft of the draft resolution that has already leaked, there is no express mention of a corona traffic light, but an "early warning system".
