For some it is back home, for others the autumn holidays are just beginning.
While some holidaymakers from Hamburg, Hesse, Schleswig-Holstein and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania start their return journey at the weekend, the holidays are only just beginning in several federal states.
More precisely in Berlin, Brandenburg, Bremen, Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland.
This ensures traffic on the highways, which is, however, slowed down again and again.
According to the ADAC, there are over 700 construction sites on the autobahns alone that could be tight.
The car club expects the highest volume of traffic on Friday afternoon, Saturday morning and late Sunday afternoon.
According to the ADAC, traffic jams are possible especially in the direction of the hiking areas in the low mountain ranges and the Alps as well as on the coasts.
The following routes are considered to be particularly stressed - in both directions:
Trunk roads to and from the North and Baltic Seas
A 1 Hamburg - Bremen
A 1 / A 3 / A 4 Cologne Ring
A 2 Dortmund - Hanover
A 3 Cologne - Frankfurt - Nuremberg - Passau
A 5 Hattenbacher Dreieck - Karlsruhe - Basel
A 6 Mannheim - Heilbronn - Nuremberg
A 7 Hamburg - Hanover - Würzburg - Füssen / Reutte
A 8 Karlsruhe - Stuttgart - Munich - Salzburg
A 9 Halle / Leipzig - Nuremberg - Munich
A 10 Berliner Ring
A 24 Hamburg - Berlin
A 93 Inntal triangle - Kufstein
A 61 Mönchengladbach - Koblenz - Ludwigshafen
A 95 / B 2 Munich - Garmisch-Partenkirchen
A 96 Munich - Lindau
A 99 bypass Munich
In the neighboring countries, travel is currently less due to Corona, but according to ADAC, drivers will not always have free travel on classic holiday routes such as the Tauern, Fernpass, Brenner, Rhine Valley and Gotthard routes.
In addition, waiting times due to identity checks can be expected at borders - and those who return from risk areas have to be prepared for quarantine measures, warns the car club.
