Joshua Kenz, one of the greatest Hebrew writers, passed away at the age of 83. Kenz also served as editor and translator, and he edited, among other things, the Haaretz Literary Supplement in the past.

The funeral will take place in the Yarkon Cemetery at 6:30 p.m.



Kenz was born in 1937 in Petah Tikva as Yehoshua Glass.

He studied philosophy and Romanian languages ​​at the Hebrew University and French literature at the Sorbonne.

He wrote his first story in Paris under the literary name "Avi Othniel".

Over the years, Kenz has written the books "After the Holidays" (1964), "The Great Woman of Dreams" (1973), "Musical Moment" (1980), "Stealth Individuals" (1986), "On the Way to the Cats" (1991) , "Returning Past Loves" (1997), "Landscape with Three Trees" (2000) and "Choir Song" (2013);

He does a lot of translating songs and stories from French.

Among his translations: "Intimacy" written by Jean-Paul Sartre;

"The Kiss to the Leper" written by François Moriak;

Georges Simnon's books "Letter to the Judge", "Bell's Death", "Moon Blow", "The Man Who Watched the Trains" and "The Iron Stairs" and more.

Some of his books have been translated into several languages, and some have been taught in universities and high schools.

He was placed in symbolic places on the Meretz list in the 17th, 18th and 19th Knesset elections (for 109th, 106th and 105th places respectively).

He has won the Agnon Prize, the ACUM Prize, the Alterman Prize and the Bialik Prize. It has been reported that he refused for years to allow his candidacy for the Israel Prize.
