The Peugeot 3008 is one of the most appreciated crossovers we have, is the plug-in version as convincing as the others?

First test: Peugeot 3008 PHEV

In the midst of the electric wave that is sweeping the supply of PSA, the 3008 comes in a PHEV version that promises and maintains immense fuel savings along with excellent performance.

But in practice you will have to really make an effort to justify it

Green, strong, and overwhelming in every tackle so far.

Front: Peugeot 3008

Since the first encounter with the 3008 in Israel somewhere in late 2016 and throughout his dealings so far, the French crossover has managed to come out with his hand on the top and a bundle of compliments in his lap.

Not only with us, his customers also point with their feet and he is one of the importer's hits.

True, even in his best year (2019) he is a gap of about 4,000 units from the best-selling models in his group.

But there is another statistic that is interesting to him, as with some of his competitors, about a third of the sales are of the high and expensive finish levels.

It is interesting at this point that before electricity, and before fuel and above all - at 218,000 shekels, the Peugeot 3008 is an expensive vehicle.

Peugeot lifts the counter with 3008 plug-in and 2008 electric

To the full article

The premium finish level that comes with the front-wheel drive is the same as that of the other versions and is very well equipped

Passenger compartment and armature

The Peugeot 3008 comes in the plug-in version in the 225 hp front-wheel drive version with a premium finish level and in the 300 hp version with dual propulsion in the GT finish level, we chose to test the first one.

The level of finish is the same as that of petrol and diesel cars, except for a few small things that differentiate them (separate opening for electricity and a number of switches unique to it).

This means, in partial detail, that there is an electric driver's seat, peripheral parking sensors, wireless charging for mobile, compatibility for Apple and Android devices, electric opening to the trunk even with a swing of the leg, air conditioning outlets for the rear seats and more.

The safety system is comprehensive and complete, automatic braking, adaptive cruise control with signage detection and adjustment of cruise control to the permitted speed, correction of deviation from the lane and more.

Here are the things we liked like the quality of the materials and also the ones that are less like the steering wheel

In other things it is the familiar 3008, for its virtues like the design and comfort of the seats and its disadvantages like its silly steering wheel for its shape (truncated at the top and bottom), its size (look for a colliding car without a steering wheel) and its location (which always hides one figure or another).

There is also the operation of the air conditioning system from the touch screen and the laser and animation shows in each display change in the dashboard - come on, I just want to get different information, I did not come to 3D cinema.

The rear space is good for three kids technically, in practice the back of the center console and the elevation in the center will make you give up.

They get two air conditioning ports and also there is a very nice leather-fabric upholstery combination.

The trunk shrinks here from 520 liters to only 395 liters, both due to the load management system there, but mainly due to the use of a multi-link hanger in this version instead of a power beam in the regular versions.

Technically will suffice for three children, in practice the bulge of the center console allows the seating of two

Passengers

As mentioned, we are in the premium version, here there is a 1.6-liter turbocharged gasoline engine that delivers 180 hp and together with it an electric motor with an output of 110 hp that brings a combined output of 225 hp and 36.7 kg.

The paddle is front and the gearbox is an 8-speed planetary.

When talking about "performance" in such a car, the question is always whether it means accelerations or savings.

Well on these two levels the 3008 plug-in gives a winning answer - 8.7 seconds per 100 km / h, 61 km free from pollution by driving with the declared power of the batteries.

Charging - 6 hours of household or two hours from a 32-amp charging station will fill its 13.2 kilowatt-hour batteries.

It's on paper.

The trunk drops to 395 liters mainly due to the use of a multi-link rear suspension

On the road, the feel of accelerations and driving certainly match the official figure.

This 3008 is agile in all traffic and road conditions.

In terms of range, we measured it 45 km electric on one occasion and 50 km on the other in completely normal driving, these are not the declared 61 km, but it is close enough to meet the daily mobility needs of most customers.

Unlike plug-in versions Other hybrids, which stiffen the suspensions and brakes to cope with the extra weight (like its only direct competitor at the moment, the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV), the 3008 maintains the excellent ride comfort we know from all its variants. It's so in the city, it's so out of it, A vehicle that knows how to be a long-distance companion.

The external differences between it and the regular versions amount to a loading opening and tags

The engine responses are excellent in the combination of electric power that provides a quick response to pressing the pedal and is joined by the petrol engine.

Even when the battery is depleted (technically it is not really completely depleted in any situation), it continues to offer excellent performance.

So there is also a solution here for a car that knows how to drive excellently far beyond the electric range, without the constant dilemma of "will there be a place to charge?"

Of pure electric cars.

The place where the 3008 pays a dynamic price in this version is actually one of those that were the big bonuses of this model - on the winding road.

It is mostly related to his weight.

At 1,835 kg it is heavier at 303 kg than the equivalent 1.6 turbo version and at 440 kg than the basic petrol version - so it may accelerate faster than them - but the physics can not be cheated and in turns you get much less tight behavior And dangerous, not dangerous or unstable, but too bent, too little restraint and steering wheel with a minimum of transmission.

The benefits of a regular electric car with driving capabilities even without a charged battery

Summary

In general, until the next leap of electric cars or their charging infrastructure, for those looking for a pollution-free solution for everyday use with distance coverage capabilities without range anxiety - plug-in cars are the only solution in the field.

The 3008 PHEV has this combination with a power unit that knows how to be very powerful or very economical such that in administrative driving easily spends 15.6 km per liter and even after a wonderfully hooligan dynamic episode dropped to 13.3 km per liter - these are excellent numbers.

His mediocre performance in the way he moves on the winding road probably really does not interest anyone who buys a crossover and not a normal car.

But these and those are interesting price.

And at 218,000 shekels it is very expensive.

1.6 liter gasoline with an electric motor that adds up to 225 hp and a very agile vehicle

The equivalent 1.6 premium version in performance and equipment costs NIS 187,000 and the annual licensing fee will be NIS 1,000 cheaper.

If you translate this gap of 30,000 shekels per liter of fuel, we are talking about about 5,200 liters.

How far or in what route of use should you put it to close the gap in fuel consumption?

It very much depends on your specific use and the period of time you intend to own the vehicle.

Bottom line the Peugeot 3008 PHEV is a very good vehicle but at its price - except for too many customers.

How much do you travel and how will the crucial question be in his case
