Biden accuses Trump of surrendering to the corona virus

12:15 a.m.:

US presidential candidate Joe Biden has accused incumbent Donald Trump of capitulating to the

corona virus

.

It was triggered by comments from Trump's Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, which revealed that the White House is currently more confident in treating those who are sick than in taking action against the spread of the virus.

The number of new infections in the US is currently at a record level of around 83,700 per day.

"We will not control the pandemic," Meadows said in a live interview on CNN on Sunday.

That's because you're dealing with a highly contagious virus like the flu, Meadows said.

Biden described Meadows' remarks as an admission that Trump's government "has given up even trying to bring the pandemic under control".

Meanwhile, Trump again claimed in an election campaign on Sunday that the US would soon be over the mountain in the corona crisis.

"We turn the curve, we have the vaccines, we have everything. We turn the curve. Even without the vaccines, we turn the curve. It will pass," said the president of New Hampshire.

Meanwhile, the number of corona deaths exceeded the 225,000 mark on Sunday.

The vaccines are still in the test phase.

The US government experts assume that sufficient vaccine doses will not be available for all Americans until the spring.

Talks with Laschet, Merz and Röttgen: CDU presence party conference in December should not take place

00.10 a.m.:

The CDU does not want to have its party congress planned for December 4th in attendance.

This was confirmed to SPIEGEL from party circles.

The dpa news agency had previously reported that the presence party convention for the election of a new party chairman was off the table.

The party leadership had ended its deliberations with the possible chancellor candidates Armin Laschet, Friedrich Merz and Norbert Röttgen on Sunday evening after five hours of talks.

The party congress cannot take place as planned due to the worsening corona pandemic.

During the consultations, it should be clarified which alternative implementations could be considered in view of the drastically increasing numbers of corona infections.

The new plan is to be discussed on Monday in the CDU committees.

Israel eases corona measures: open more schools

00:05:

Israel will further relax its measures in the fight against the corona virus and send more children to face-to-face classes again.

As the government announced on Sunday evening, from November 1st, first and second graders will be taught again for a few hours in the school buildings.

The classes are divided into two groups.

The two groups then alternate each day for a few hours in face-to-face classes, while the other half of the school day has to be continued at home.

Third and fourth graders should be fully taught in groups in the school buildings.

The older students stay in homeschooling.

Children under the age of six have been allowed to attend kindergartens and preschools again since last Sunday.

In Israel, school week starts on Sundays.

In Israel, a country with around nine million inhabitants, the anti-corona measures have been relaxed again for a week.

The Israeli Ministry of Health had registered 692 new infections with the corona virus for the previous day on Saturday.

At the end of September, the number of infections had reached its previous high of more than 9,000.

Since the pandemic began, 2,372 people have died from Covid 19 disease.

No new infection numbers were published on Sunday due to a technical problem.
