Health authorities report 11,176 new infections in Germany

5:56 a.m.:

According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the health authorities in Germany have

registered

11,176 new

corona

infections

within one day

.

However, the number of cases recorded is usually lower on Sundays, also because fewer tests are carried out on the weekend.

Exactly one week ago there were 5587 new infections in one day.

According to the information, a total of 429,181 people in Germany have been infected with the virus since the beginning of the pandemic.

(As of October 25th, midnight).

The number of deaths in Germany related to the virus increased by 29 to a total of 10,032.

The 10,000 mark had been exceeded the day before.

According to the RKI situation report on Saturday, the number of reproductions, or R value for short, was 1.36 in Germany (previous day: 1.23).

This means that ten infected people infect almost 14 other people.

The R-value depicts the infection rate about one and a half weeks beforehand.

In addition, the RKI gives a so-called seven-day R in its management report.

The value relates to a longer period of time and is therefore less subject to daily fluctuations.

According to RKI estimates, this value was 1.38 on Saturday (previous day: 1.30).

It shows the infection process from 8 to 16 days ago.

Italy plans further restrictions - protests in Rome

02.38 a.m.:

The Italian government is planning further restrictions to contain the

corona virus

.

According to a draft that was circulated on Saturday, swimming pools and gyms could be closed.

Bars and restaurants would have to close at 6 p.m.

In addition, people should be encouraged not to leave their district.

Some regions have already adopted stricter measures with night curfews, such as Campania, Lazio and Lombardy.

In Rome in the evening there were protests by supporters of the right-wing group Forza Nuova against the restrictions.

Minister of Economics Altmaier: Sufficient masks available

1:47 a.m.:

According to Federal Minister of Economics Peter Altmaier, there are enough masks in Germany.

On the one hand, sufficient masks are now being produced in Germany, he told the newspapers of the Funke media group.

"Thankfully, the situation on the world market has also eased, so we assume that enough masks will be available at all times."

The goal of producing ten billion masks a year in Germany will be achieved, said Altmaier.

In addition, he does not expect delivery problems for some products like in spring.

There are currently no bottlenecks in common drugs either.

Foreign trade president calls for stricter measures

00:52:

The President of the Foreign Trade Association (BGA), Anton Börner, speaks out in favor of tougher measures to combat corona.

"We must keep the pandemic under control under all circumstances in order to avoid another shutdown," he told "Bild am Sonntag".

Public life must be shut down much more.

"The longer we wait, the greater the damage to people's health and also to the economy. It is better to act decisively now, even if it is painful, so that we don't run out of time," said Börner.

Contacts would also have to be reduced even more.

Lockdown for Lauterbach may only be a matter of weeks

00.06 a.m.:

The SPD health expert Karl Lauterbach considers a new lockdown within weeks to be likely if the new infections are not contained.

"If we do not succeed in restricting personal contacts in the next two to three weeks, the numbers will have risen so sharply in a few weeks that we only have another lockdown," said Lauterbach of "Bild am Sonntag".

"The restrictions that have now been decided are unfortunately not enough to prevent overcrowded intensive care units and a significant increase in the death rate in December," said Lauterbach.

"We have to readjust that."

The SPD politician demanded, among other things, divided classes in schools.

"If we don't want the schools with regular school dropouts to become hotspots, the school classes should now be divided into morning and afternoon classes."

Any contact, no matter where, could be contaminated.

"It is no longer enough just to be careful and comply with the AHA + L rules."
