In the workshops of Volkswagen dealers in the USA, increased workload is likely to arise in the near future.

The company brings numerous vehicles into workshops because of the risk of gasoline leaks.

With a good 218,000 Jetta from model years 2016 to 2018 there is a risk that certain screws will loosen over time, the US traffic authority NHTSA announced on Monday (local time).

This could cause fuel to leak, which in the worst case could lead to a fire hazard.

The authority's documents show that the problem first appeared in April 2018 at the VW plant in Puebla, Mexico, from which the components of the affected Jetta for the US market come.

Volkswagen's US dealers should now replace the defective parts.

The recall comes just a few days after the group was able to spread comparatively positive news.

At the end of October, the world's largest automaker reported a profit again for the months of July to September after the drastic fall in spring.

The net profit attributable to the shareholders was just under 2.6 billion euros in the third quarter.

For comparison: between April and June, the Volkswagen Group had to report a loss of around 1.6 billion euros.

Especially in April, as a result of the first corona lockdown, the conveyor belts had stood still for weeks, and car dealerships were also closed in many places.

Investors were apparently satisfied with the numbers

In the meantime, VW has largely been able to work off the backlog in the camps and, thanks to the purchase bonuses for hybrid and electric cars, sell more cars again.

Sales in the third quarter of the year were slightly more than 59 billion euros, 3.4 percent below the previous year's level - but that is a noticeable improvement on the previous quarter, when there was still a drop of 37 percent compared to 2019.

The surprisingly positive quarterly figures were well received on the stock exchange: Volkswagen's preferred shares rose by almost three percent.
