Is linear TV still relevant?

Netflix is currently testing a linear content channel (live broadcasts) of a channel in France, it was reported.

The channel known as "Netflix Direct" will be available to Netflix subscribers, and will provide content from the existing streaming library in a linear format, similar to existing TV channels.

"Maybe you're not in a position to decide, or you're new and find your way, or you just want to be surprised," Netflix said when announcing the new service.

Netflix chose to launch the service in France because traditional television is particularly popular, and there they prefer the "sit back and watch" experience.

The new service was launched in selected parts of France and next month will expand to more parts.

According to Variety, which reported on the new experiment, Netflix has about 9 million subscribers in France.

Netflix tried to look for alternatives to the service, in the form of the "random" button, which by clicking on it will play one of the contents available in the library.

With Netflix Direct, viewers will be able to watch programs from within the library while they are broadcast linearly.

In the first two quarters of 2020, the American streaming giant increased its number of subscribers by an additional 26 million subscribers.

This is the same number as the number of subscribers who joined in 2019, but along with reports that Netflix has increased the number of subscribers, there have also been reports of users canceling the service due to repeated claims that there is not enough quality content.

Netflix's new experiment indicates that the company has taken the time to tailor the service to local users in each and every country, with France being the first to receive the new update.
