551 people with Covid-19 disease have died in hospital in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths since the start of the epidemic to 40,987, Director General of Health Jérôme Salomon announced on Monday, November 9.
"The peak of the epidemic is in front of us, the 2nd wave is still progressing", warned Salomon, while observing "a slower progression" of it "everywhere where early braking measures have been applied in particular curfew".

France is the 4th country in the world in number of cases, he also specified.
20,155 new cases in 24 hours were detected on Monday, against 38,619 the day before.
24 million tests have been carried out since the start of the epidemic.
31,125 patients are currently hospitalized in France, i.e. 882 more than on Sunday (30,243).
The pressure continues to increase on the intensive care units, which had 4,690 patients on Monday, against 3,721 at the start of the week.
The total reception capacity has been increased from 5,000 to 6,400 beds, with a target of 7,500, which could still be raised to 10,500 beds.
