Covid-19: 297 deaths in 24 hours, nearly 14,000 new positive cases detected

Five days before the lifting of containment, 13,750 new positive cases for Covid-19 were detected on Thursday. This is more than double the 5,000 cases per day cap initially set by the government to lift health restrictions.

13,750 positive cases for Covid-19 were recorded in France this Thursday, November 10, according to official figures published by Public Health France, a level down compared to the day before but still very far from the symbolic bar of 5,000 cases per day set initially by the government to lift the containment measures on December 15.

Over the last 7 days, the daily average of new positive cases remains above 10,000 and tends to increase.

The number of patients in intensive care (that is to say the most serious cases) continues to decrease slightly and even goes below the symbolic bar of 3000, to 2949 people, against 3031 the day before and 3415 there are one week.

191 patients were admitted to intensive care units on Wednesday.

The second criterion established by the executive to put an end to travel restrictions was precisely that the number of patients in intensive care should be brought back to a range of between 2,500 and 3,000.

In total, 25,199 patients are hospitalized because of the Covid as of Thursday, against 25,526 the day before.

On Monday, they were 26,333.

In addition, 297 Covid-related deaths have been recorded in hospitals in the past 24 hours, up from 296 on Wednesday and 326 a week ago.

In total, 56,940 people have died from Covid in France since the start of the epidemic (including 39,527 in hospital).

Finally, the positivity rate (proportion of positive tests compared to the total number of tests) remains at 6.4% as the day before.

But we cannot compare it to the 11% or so that it reached in the previous days because Public Health France has changed its calculation methods since Tuesday.

Curfew on December 31

Previously, the health agency only took into account people who tested positive or negative for the first time, which is no longer the case.

This mechanically lowers the positivity rate, since the basis on which the proportion of positive tests is calculated is now broader.

Faced with this health situation less favorable than anticipated, the government announced Thursday a continuation of deconfinement on December 15, but with an advanced curfew at 8 p.m. and more severe restrictions for the holidays.
