A police officer currently in charge of "violence against women" in his police station was tried on Wednesday, December 30 by the Nantes (Loire-Atlantique) criminal court for the "harassment" of a woman, known on a dating site.

The official - also a municipal councilor delegated to "video protection" in his town - had in fact initially tried to "win back" the complainant after she had ended their relationship after a few weeks.

For example, he had consulted the file of gray cards to find the address of his parents - whom he had never met - to send them a box of chocolates.

He had also put her as the beneficiary of his life insurance, without notifying her.

Faced with his refusal to resume their relationship, this 40-year-old man had subsequently written to the Family Allowance Fund (CAF) to denounce his alleged "fraud" to social benefits, which had resulted in "unannounced checks" to his ex-partner.

He had also sent "denigrating letters" to the academy of Nantes for it to take "administrative sanctions" against this teacher.

The police officer had also entered another professional file to find the trace of an alleged "false complaint" that the victim would have filed against her ex-husband in the context of their divorce.

His lawyer pleaded for his release because of the “partiality of the procedure”: it had been opened after the victim confided in his new companion, also a police officer at the central police station in Nantes.

The defendant was then “automatically transferred” to Maine-et-Loire, a neighboring department.

Even recently, in April 2020, he therefore sent them a "threatening letter" to claim "300,000 euros" in compensation.

“[The fight against] harassment is my core business… Would I be stupid enough, as an OPJ

(Editor's note: Judicial police officer)

, to commit such an offense?

“, He therefore asked the Nantes judges.

Not convinced, the public prosecutor called for six months in prison with a simple suspension.

Judgment in a month.
