Various figures in the culture and entertainment industry today (Friday) rejected the outline of aid to the world of culture presented yesterday by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Ministers Israel Katz and Hili Trooper, at the end of a meeting with musician Aviv Geffen, accusing it of a cynical and uncovered move. Presented without any coordination with them.

The outline includes NIS 70 million in assistance throughout 2021, with more than 60 million of it to be transferred to local authorities in order to book shows and performances, and an additional NIS 6 million for artists in distress.

This morning, the action committee of the culture, leisure, events and conferences industry issued a statement according to which it opposes the outline agreed between Geffen and Netanyahu.

"Aviv never represented or represents the people of the industry and chose to make an uncoordinated and unrepresentative move, without consultation and without it being agreed with any of the industry people working for its broad and correct representation. We appreciate the good intentions but a mistake was made here, damage was done and repaired immediately. The economic presented is a perforated outline that provides a solution for at least 20% of those involved in the field, compared to 80% of industry workers who have not worked for about 10 months. "

The committee added that it demands another meeting with Netanyahu and Katz.

Later in the day, members of the "Cultural Forum" of the "Democratic Party" - a movement that unites activists identified with the protest in Balfour - including the chairman of the actors' organization Shaham Estee Zakheim, the director of Felicja Blumenthal Abigail Arnheim, the writer and poet Ilan also reacted sharply. Sheinfeld and others.

They linked the outline in Netanyahu's election campaign, claiming that "in this band-aid there is no cure for the deep wound that his regime has inflicted on Israeli culture."

Forum members claimed that during his tenure, the Netanyahu governments harmed Israeli culture, especially during the current crisis.

"As the corona crisis intensified, we saw that the Netanyahu regime saw culture as a surplus, a last resort, and did not show understanding for the artist's plight or tolerance for statements other than those prevalent in the corridors of government, criticism of what was happening and freedom of expression.

Netanyahu meets with Aviv Geffen: "Culture will be one of the first to return. We must say 'we are a vaccinated generation'"

To the full article

"This is a day in a row for the world of culture and art in Israel," Netanyahu said yesterday, while presenting the outline.

"A few days ago, Aviv came to me, I wanted to hear about the art world. We went out, sat outside, and he said to me: 'Listen, we must help and bring the world of culture back to life as well.' Veteran artists suffer and artists in general, it is difficult for them to perform. And the Minister of Culture, we found a solution, and the solution we bring today is NIS 70 million for performances that will be delivered through the authorities who will be obliged to give it to performances. It is subsidized. It will bring and fill the halls. Among them, NIS 6 million for veteran artists. It's breath-taking, and it will be in a few weeks. "

Geffen also welcomed the development.

"I was happy to find very attentive ears here and a very immediate solution that was achieved within a few days, after sitting here for hours and hours. With all the sadness of the corona I must say that I am very happy like any Israeli to have vaccines. Many tell me, 'What do you say about the situation? ', And it's true that some artists in the world were rewarded much faster with more money which created a lot of rage on the street. But it's fair to say that Israel is going to be the first place artists perform and audiences can come and see performances, at least until July-August. "So I am very proud of Israel that we have joined forces even if we disagree, but we are bringing culture back to Israel and that is a huge line in my eyes and Israel will be the first to open shows and that is quite a bit."
