An avalanche swept away, this Wednesday, at the start of the afternoon, a 60-year-old backcountry skier in the Mont Jura, near Chézery-Forens (Ain).
Found under more than a meter of snow in cardio-respiratory arrest, the man was helicoptered to the Annecy hospital (Haute-Savoie), where he finally died.
The man progressed with his wife on the crest of the sting.
The latter, although shocked, is unharmed.
In total, around fifty firefighters and two civil security helicopters were mobilized to help the sixty-year-old.
An investigation was entrusted to the gendarmerie.
Several other accidents linked to snowflows were recorded on Wednesday in the Alps without causing any victims, said the emergency services.
Weather conditions conducive to avalanches
"The current meteorological conditions, combining milder temperatures and strong gusts of wind, make the outings more dangerous", recalled the prefecture of Ain in a statement.
"The snow, which has fallen in abundance in recent days, and which melts more quickly, causes more instability," added the prefecture of Ain.
This situation, which the department is experiencing, is also observed in neighboring departments.
