Foundation: Often preventing corona deaths from sepsis

03.35 a.m.:

According to the German Sepsis Foundation, many corona patients die of undetected blood poisoning.

Such a course can often be prevented through better early detection and appropriate treatment.

As before, there is widespread ignorance about the topic of sepsis in the population, but also in some cases among medical or nursing staff, said the foundation chairman Konrad Reinhart the editorial network Germany (RND).

"A big problem is that many patients who want to cure themselves with an uncomplicated Covid 19 disease at home do not notice in time when it turns into sepsis," says Reinhart.

"Anyone who notices signs such as a sudden extreme feeling of illness, fever, a high pulse, confusion or chills should under no circumstances wait and go to a hospital or call an emergency doctor immediately."

Sepsis - commonly known as blood poisoning - is an overreaction of the immune system to an infection.

This damages organs and can lead to death within hours.

According to the intensive care physician Reinhart, sepsis not only plays a decisive role in corona, but also in Ebola, flu or any future pandemic, regardless of the pathogen.

Therefore he calls for a national sepsis plan.

According to the Sepsis Foundation, around 75,000 people in Germany die of sepsis every year.

According to the Foundation, around 15,000 to 20,000 of them could be saved if the disease was recognized in good time and treated appropriately.

General practitioner association calls for fixed prices for surgical and FFP2 masks

02.15 a.m.:

The German

General

Practitioner Association has warned of excessive prices for surgical and FFP2 masks in online retail and demanded fixed prices.

"It would make sense to ensure that the masks are sold at fair prices," said chairman Ulrich Weigeldt of the editorial network Germany (RND).

It must be prevented that - as with the first lockdown last spring with protective masks, disinfectants and toilet paper - exorbitant prices.

"For example, a fixed price could be set for this, which must not be exceeded," said Weigeldt.

The federal and state governments agreed on Tuesday that masks that protect better than everyday masks made of fabric will have to be worn on buses, trains and shops.

These can be surgical masks, FFP2 masks or KN95 masks, which have a comparable standard.

Minister Müller directs vaccine appeal to US tech companies

02.05 a.m.:

Development

Minister

Gerd Müller (CSU) has called on global companies to support poor countries in procuring more corona vaccines.

"My appeal is aimed in particular at the corona crisis winners such as Amazon, Facebook, Google: Get involved in more vaccines for the poorest!", Müller told the "Rheinische Post".

The pandemic hits the poorest of the poor hardest.

On the other hand, the global crisis response is still far behind what is necessary.

»It's - for example in the Sahel zone - about the danger that state structures will collapse due to the corona crisis.

This can lead to uncontrolled refugee movements, «warned the CSU politician.

While 14 percent of the world's population would have secured 50 percent of the vaccine doses that could be ordered, the developing and emerging countries could ideally only offer 20 percent of their population a vaccination offer by the end of the year.

Doing more to protect people in poor countries is in the interests of Europeans.

“We will only be able to defeat the pandemic worldwide or not at all.

Otherwise the virus will come back on the next plane, ”said Müller.
