The year does not start well for the car market: the first month of the year starts with an uphill battle due to the pandemic crisis that continues to generate a climate of uncertainty.

There is some opening thanks to the incentives that led Italians to purchase, preferring more 'green' and eco-sustainable models for the final choice.

In the first month of the new year, confirmation comes from the ranking of best-selling cars, a triumph, that of Panda, in the footsteps of the past months.

SUVs continue to be buyers' favorite car models due to their load capacity and raised drive.

Exploit of electrified, hybrid and plug-in cars which recorded a surge in consensus in the first month of the year also due to the presence of a great variety of models for sale on the market.

In particular, 12,162 Fiat Pandas were registered in January;

of these 5,952 are in the hybrid version (HEV).

Silver medal, and it is no coincidence, goes to the Toyota Yaris (4,337 units), which also climbs to the second step of the podium in the ranking of hybrid best sellers, just behind Panda (3447 units).

To close the top-three of the best-selling in Italy, the Lancia Ypsilon that exceeds 4 thousand units, third classified also among the hybrids, with over 3,200 units delivered to customers.

The Citroen C3, the Jeep Renegade, also chosen in the plug-in hybrid version, the Opel Corsa and the French cousin, Peugeot 208, also available in a full electric version, follow in the top ten of the best-selling cars.

The Vw T-Roc (first among the crossovers), the Dacia Duster and the Fiat 500 close the ranking.

In January, another confirmation is certainly the preference of the Italians for SUVs, crossovers and off-road vehicles that share the market with the ' timeless' sedans.

The SUV of Vw exceeds the Jeep Renegade by a hundred units, followed by the Fiat 500.

In fourth place the Ford Puma, which is instead fifth among the best-selling hybrids.

Suvs also like Dacia Duster, Peugeot 2008, Renault Captur, Vw T-Cross, Peugeot 3008 and Ford Ecosport.

Finally, as regards the chosen power supplies, it can be noted that the traditional ones (diesel and petrol with a share of 26.9% and 36% respectively) leave more and more space for alternative ones.

Hybrids make up a quarter of the total market with HEVs accounting for the largest share.

In January, almost 2,500 electric cars were registered with the new Fiat 500 and the Smart Fortwo, confirming themselves in first position with 419 registered units.

Followed by Renault Zoe, Opel Corsa and Peugeot 208. The next two positions are occupied by two other French, Renault Twingo and Peugeot 2008. The Vw Up !, Hyundai Kona and Citroen C4 close this particular ranking.
