A 28-year-old Chadian student living in Nancy was sentenced Friday to two years in prison for having contacted on the darknet, the dark side of the internet, hired killers in order to "eliminate" his former girlfriend, we learned Sunday from the prosecution.
A case first revealed by L'Est Républicain.
Information reaching the illegal content reporting platform Pharos, and others transmitted by a BBC team preparing a documentary on the darknet, put investigators on the student's trail, he told l 'AFP the public prosecutor of Nancy François Pérain.

It was thus discovered that "in September 2020, the person concerned had contacted various
professionals
or considered as such likely to carry out, and on his behalf, his criminal project", said the magistrate.
The student "explained that it was indeed in his intention to take revenge on a woman who had cheated on him with another man", he added.
Placed in custody on February 3, the student admitted "to have tried to use the service of contract killers on the darknet to
eliminate
his ex-girlfriend and his new companion", indicated Mr. Pérain.
A file titled "people to be eliminated" was found on his computer.
Tried in immediate appearance on Friday, he was sentenced for "instigation of murder, not followed up" to four years' imprisonment, two of which were accompanied by a probationary period, as well as a ban on stay in Meurthe- et-Moselle of two years, reported the prosecutor.
