The German health authorities reported 8,616 new corona infections to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) within one day.

In addition, 231 new deaths were recorded within 24 hours, according to figures from the RKI on Sunday.

Exactly one week ago, the RKI had recorded 11,192 new infections and 399 new deaths within 24 hours.

The high of 1,244 new reported deaths was reached on January 14th.

In the case of the new infections registered within 24 hours, the highest value was reported on December 18, at 33,777 - but this contained 3500 late reports.

The number of new infections reported within seven days per 100,000 inhabitants (seven-day incidence) was 75.6 on Sunday morning, according to the RKI.

Its previous high was reached on December 22nd at 197.6.

Most federal states continue to record falling seven-day incidences, according to the RKI.

The goal of the federal government is to push the value below 50.

According to a decision by the federal and state governments, the current corona shutdown throughout Germany will initially apply until February 14th.

Next Wednesday, top representatives from the federal and state levels want to advise on how to proceed in the fight against the pandemic.

It is still unclear whether the shutdown will be extended or whether it will be eased for the first time.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, the RKI has counted 2,284,010 detected infections with Sars-CoV-2 in Germany (as of midnight).

The actual total number is likely to be significantly higher since many infections are not recognized.

The total number of people who died with or with the involvement of a proven infection with Sars-CoV-2 rose to 61,517, according to the RKI.

According to the information, the number of people recovered was around 2,029,200.

Number of intensive care patients falls below 4000

The nationwide seven-day R-value was 0.95 according to the RKI situation report from Saturday evening (previous day 0.93).

This means that 100 infected people theoretically infect 95 more people.

The value represents the occurrence of the infection 8 to 16 days ago.

If it is below 1 for a long time, the infection process subsides.

The number of corona intensive care patients in Germany has fallen to below 4,000.

As can be seen from the time series of the German Interdisciplinary Association for Intensive and Emergency Medicine (Divi), 3958 Covid 19 sufferers were treated in intensive care on Saturday (as of 12.17 p.m.)

That was 108 less than the day before.

More than half of the patients received invasive ventilation.

The last time the number of corona intensive care patients was below 4,000 on December 3, it had risen to over 5,700 by the beginning of January.
