The German health authorities reported 6114 new corona infections to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) within 24 hours.

In addition, the institute recorded 214 new deaths within one day, according to RKI figures from Sunday.

Exactly one week ago, the number of new infections within 24 hours was 8,616, and 231 new deaths were also counted at the time.

The value of the seven-day incidence calculated by the RKI also fell: per 100,000 inhabitants, the number of new infections reported within seven days fell to around 57 nationwide by Sunday morning, according to the institute.

In two federal states - Rhineland-Palatinate with 46.6 and Baden-Württemberg with 48.5 - the incidence calculated by the RKI was below 50. However, there are still drastic differences between different districts.

All other federal states had values below 100, Thuringia had the highest incidence with 97.6.

Slightly higher R value

The nationwide seven-day R-value was according to the RKI situation report from Saturday evening at 0.90 - slightly higher than the day before (0.87).

This means that 100 infected people infect 90 more people.

The value represents the occurrence of the infection 8 to 16 days ago.

If it is below 1 for a long time, the infection process subsides.

In this map you can read off the seven-day incidence for your and every other district in Germany.

However, these sometimes deviate from the RKI figures, as SPIEGEL calculates the incidence differently.

The reason is that the RKI numbers systematically underestimate the incidence of infections in several areas.

For the entire weekend - that is, the numbers published on Saturday and Sunday morning combined - the number of newly reported deaths was 769. Last weekend it was 920. However, the numbers recorded are usually lower on weekends, among other things because less is tested and reported.

The previous high of 1,244 newly reported deaths was reached on January 14th.

With 33,777 new infections registered within 24 hours, the highest value was reached on December 18;

however, it contained 3,500 late registrations.

The seven-day incidence calculated by the RKI had its highest level to date on December 22nd at around 198.

Almost 65,000 corona deaths meanwhile

The differences between the districts in terms of infection rates are still great.

According to the current RKI figures, the highest incidence was in the Bavarian districts of Tirschenreuth with just under 310 and Wunsiedel in the Fichtel Mountains with 230, followed by Wesermarsch in Lower Saxony (221).

The RKI shows the lowest values for the urban districts of Schweinfurt and Münster with just under 6 and 11 and Zweibrücken (12).

The federal and state governments want to allow extensive loosening of the corona restrictions only when the incidence value falls below 35.

Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) agreed on this brand with the prime ministers of the federal states at their conference last Wednesday.

In total, the RKI has counted 2,334,561 detected infections with Sars-CoV-2 in Germany since the beginning of the pandemic (as of midnight).

The actual total number is likely to be significantly higher since many infections are not detected.

The RKI stated the number of people recovered to be around 2,119,100.

The total number of people who died with or with a proven infection with Sars-CoV-2 rose to 64,960.
