The 35-year-old woman was on trial for "repeated violence resulting in death without intention of giving it" on the 2-year-old girl.

It is a sentence in accordance with the requisitions of Advocate General Sylvaine Schumacher who declared "to strike a child is the most cowardly act that exists.

The Pyrénées-Orientales Assize Court on Wednesday sentenced a mother of five to twenty years of criminal imprisonment for the murder in 2016 of the daughter of her companion.

"It is a missed appointment with the truth", further estimated the general counsel, stressing that by acknowledging Tuesday having "stirred" the accused girl had not really made a confession of her guilt.

A fall in the shower ...

Sabrina Meulen, 35, had been on trial since Friday for "repeated violence leading to death without intention of giving it" on a 2-year-old girl, Mila, the child of her partner, a man who has since died and who was in prison in time of the facts.

The young woman was also sentenced to deprivation of her civic, civil and family rights for a period of 10 years.

During the investigation, Sabrina Meulen, who had custody of the girl, had assured that her death was due to a fall in the shower.

She lived at the time in the village of Trouillas (Pyrénées-Orientales), not far from the Perpignan remand center where the father of the little girl was imprisoned.
