Two men were indicted and remanded in custody as part of an investigation into the death of a nonagenarian whose charred body was found in April 2020 in Pontmain, a small village in Mayenne, the prosecution announced on Friday. from the Mans.
On April 5, 2020, firefighters, responding to a fire, discovered the charred body of a nonagenarian, the only occupant of the premises, in this village of a thousand inhabitants.
"The scientific assessments carried out demonstrated the criminal origin of the incident and revealed traces of violent blows to the victim before the fire," said the prosecution in a press release.
While a judicial investigation was opened in particular for murder, "the numerous investigations carried out since April 2020 by a group of investigators specially created in Mayenne, directed the suspicions on two men aged 31 and 22 years".
The two suspects already convicted
Indeed, the day before the tragedy, the two men had been implicated in violence committed on an elected official of the municipality and one of them had been imprisoned for this attack.
In addition, “the investigation highlighted their potential involvement in the death of an elderly person in January 2020 in the Vosges”, a file in which the two men were indicted, the second individual being imprisoned in October.
Between Tuesday and Thursday, a vast gendarmerie operation, with the participation of about twenty investigators, made it possible to hear the entourage and the two men implicated, "or about fifteen people", according to the press release.
At the end of the custody, the two suspects, already convicted, were indicted and placed in pre-trial detention, facing a life sentence.
