Another Covid-19 vaccine is about to be approved in the United States.
An FDA panel of experts voted on Friday for emergency approval of Johnson & Johnson's vaccine.
The vote is not binding.
As a rule, however, the FDA follows the recommendations of this commission within a very short time.
So far, the Covid-19 vaccines from Biontech / Pfizer and Moderna have been approved in the USA.
For the European Union, the EMA wants to decide on conditional marketing authorization for the vaccine from Johnson & Johnson by mid-March.
Bahrain was the first country in the world to grant the agent emergency approval on Thursday.
Compared to the other vaccines that have already been approved, the one from Johnson & Johnson has the advantage that a single dose should be sufficient instead of two doses.
In addition, the preparation does not have to be stored frozen, which makes it easier to distribute.
At the end of January, Johnson & Johnson reported an effectiveness of 66 percent for the agent in protecting against moderate to severe Covid-19 courses in its global study with around 44,000 participants.
In preventing hospitalization, the vaccine was 85 percent effective 14 days after vaccination and 100 percent effective 28 days.
