Until a few weeks ago, Porsche manager Manfred Harrer was only known to those familiar with the automotive industry.
The man rarely appeared in public, for example in September 2019 when he was allowed to present the new Taycan electric sports car at an airfield in Neuhardenberg.
That changed at the beginning of February.
Then it leaked out that the engineer will move to an employer that has had little to do with cars: Apple.
Harrer will start in the USA in early summer.
The personality fits into the picture.
For weeks there has been increasing evidence that the iPhone giant is developing its own car.
Apple has resumed its "Titan" project, which has since been scaled back, and could bring its own vehicles onto the market from 2024, the Reuters news agency reported in December.
Since then, one rumor has followed the next.
Hardly anyone in the industry doubts that the IT group wants to tackle the auto industry next after the computer, music and mobile communications industries.
The only question now seems to be: what will happen to the established players, especially the German ones?
