Quiet launch:
Google has launched
In Israel tonight (Monday) YouTube Shorts, a competing service that will allow users to create short 15-second videos with music and effects - such as Tiktok and Instagram Reels.
The new platform has so far been available to the number of users in the country only, and operates within the standard YouTube app, and not as a separate application.
The service was announced by Google back in September, when it was initially available as a beta to users in India, and later launched in other countries.
The timing of the launch in Israel is not surprising, since only last week did Facebook in Israel launch Reels - its competitor to Tiktok.
YouTube, on the other hand, has a huge user base that can help the new service grow better.
Alongside this, unlike Tiktok where there is a fairly limited catalog of music, YouTube has access to a huge music library in the agreement, like YouTube Music, so it allows users a much wider range.
